AtmosZero is building next-generation industrial steam infrastructure. The flagship product, Boiler 2.0, is a modular industrial steam heat pump designed to help manufacturers reduce operational risk, improve flexibility, and modernize steam generation. Rather than forcing facilities to choose between reliability and sustainability, the system enables a practical path toward future-ready steam systems that integrate with existing operations and scale with customer needs. Industrial steam powers manufacturing across breweries, dairies, pharmaceuticals, and specialty chemicals. Most of the U.S. fleet still relies on boiler designs predating the jet engine, facing volatile fuel costs, tightening combustion limits, and no affordable capacity-expansion options. Boiler 2.0 makes steam at up to 185°C from electricity and air alone. Because it moves heat rather than creating it, it returns roughly 2 units of steam energy per unit of electricity, compared to well under one for combustion. It drops into the old boiler's footprint and scales by adding modules—no stack, no fuel line, no combustion permit. Units are in production now in Loveland, Colorado. The compressor is one of the most important technical and cost levers in the system. The role involves moving from first-generation hardware toward production-intent designs that are lower cost, manufacturable, reliable, and supported by a scalable supplier base. Work spans the full rotating assembly: aerodynamic and mechanical design, motors, bearings, seals, cast components, instrumentation, controls interfaces, supplier execution, and validation. Key responsibilities include owning compressor development workstreams and working in close partnership to develop production-intent compressor hardware for high-temperature industrial heat-pump applications. You will own key technical workstreams across the high-speed rotating assembly, including impellers, shafts, bearings, seals, housings, motors, interfaces, and supporting instrumentation. You will translate system-level requirements into compressor operating maps, mechanical requirements, interface specifications, and validation criteria. You will lead technical efforts to improve performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost as the compressor moves toward production. Additional responsibilities include advancing design-to-cost and production readiness by leading compressor cost-down work involving cast components, part consolidation, alternate manufacturing processes, production-intent instrumentation, motors, seals, and supplier alternatives. You will develop and evaluate design concepts that reduce cost and lead time while preserving performance, reliability, safety, and serviceability. You will work with mechanical design, manufacturing, and supply-chain teams to convert concepts into released drawings, supplier-ready packages, and executable engineering changes. You will support should-cost analysis, competitive sourcing, and technical evaluation of domestic and international suppliers. The role reports to the VP of Engineering. The company is hiring one person into this role at one of three levels—Engineer III, Senior Engineer I, or Senior Engineer II—based on demonstrated scope, independence, and judgment through the interview process. REQUIREMENTS: - 8+ years of experience in turbomachinery, rotating machinery, or compressor design and development - Demonstrated expertise in compressor aerodynamics, mechanical design, or both - Experience with CFD, FEA, or other advanced analysis tools applied to rotating machinery - Hands-on experience with compressor or turbomachinery testing, instrumentation, and validation - Experience coordinating external consultants and reviewing third-party models, calculations, drawings, and test reports - Experience with failure analysis, vibration diagnostics, high-speed data acquisition, and root-cause investigation - A graduate degree, professional engineering license, or patents you helped develop
