Harbinger is an American commercial electric vehicle (EV) company focused on transforming the medium-duty EV and hybrid market. The company brings together deep expertise in EV, battery, and drivetrain systems to develop a first-of-its-kind platform.
As a Senior Powertrain Test Engineer based at the Garden Grove headquarters, you will lead the execution of system-level powertrain testing as part of Harbinger's development and validation process. You will collaborate closely with fellow test engineers to execute comprehensive testing, drive innovation in test facility capabilities, and partner with stakeholders to develop robust testing methodologies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Setting up, configuring, and maintaining test rigs and laboratory equipment for electric vehicle powertrain systems and components
- Integrating mechanical assemblies, electrical hardware, sensors, instrumentation, and control systems to enable reliable and repeatable testing
- Configuring and troubleshooting data acquisition (DAQ) systems, measurement sensors, and test instrumentation to capture high-quality test data
- Supporting execution of component- and system-level tests, including setup, instrumentation, data collection, and post-test analysis
- Analyzing test data to identify trends, characterize system performance, investigate anomalies, and support root-cause analysis
- Troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems and test setups, identifying and resolving hardware, instrumentation, and integration issues
- Collaborating with test, mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers to improve test procedures, instrumentation, and laboratory capabilities
- Documenting test configurations, wiring, instrumentation layouts, procedures, and results to support repeatability and knowledge sharing
- Contributing to continuous improvement of test systems, laboratory processes, and validation methodologies with emphasis on safety, efficiency, and data integrity
The role has a key focus on electrical, mechanical, and software integration of powertrain systems and test rigs, building out robust instrumentation and data acquisition systems, and development of automated test software.
**Requirements:**
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical engineering experience
- Approximately 3–5 years of relevant experience in test engineering, mechatronics, electro-mechanical integration, instrumentation, or hardware development
- Hands-on experience setting up, integrating, and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical hardware in a laboratory, test facility, or product development environment
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems, sensors, instrumentation, signal measurement, and test equipment
- Experience collecting, processing, and analyzing test data using tools such as Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar software
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment documentation
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work methodically through hardware and system integration challenges
- Comfortable working directly with physical hardware, using electrical measurement tools, and supporting setup and execution of engineering tests
- Strong organizational and documentation skills, with attention to test repeatability, data quality, and laboratory safety
- Collaborative, hands-on mindset and ability to work across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines
