Bloom & Wild is Europe's largest direct-to-consumer flower business (20+ million orders delivered) and is expanding into gifting categories including food, drink, candles, and home accessories. You'll join the Procurement & Technical team as the first dedicated technical hire for the gifting range, reporting to the Head of Procurement & Inventory.
You'll own end-to-end quality and compliance for all non-horticultural products across food & drink, candles, home accessories, pamper products, and textiles. This is a rare opportunity to build a technical function from the ground up.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define quality requirements and standards for multi-category products based on risk assessment; proactively flag risks before they reach customers
- Build the quality and compliance framework: risk assessment processes, product specifications with sensory/acceptance criteria, testing requirements, and quality platform structure
- Lead supplier onboarding and auditing, including on-site audits to BRCGS standard for higher-risk own-brand suppliers (ready-to-eat, allergen-sensitive products)
- Own collection, review, and auditing of technical, safety, and regulatory documentation across all categories
- Own pre-launch sign-off of own-brand labels and customer-facing product information (ingredients, allergens, CE/UKCA marks, warnings); implement controls for accuracy across channels
- Lead quality incident response, root-cause investigations, and corrective action follow-up with suppliers and warehouse teams
- Own traceability and recall/withdrawal processes; run regular mock recalls
- Introduce surveillance testing across own-brand range; set and monitor quality KPIs for suppliers
- Take overall responsibility for quality and compliance processes at fulfillment sites for non-horticultural products; set standards for warehouse teams and review records for consistent application
- Monitor regulatory changes in food and product safety law; translate into practical updates
You'll work closely with Range, Strategic Procurement, Supply Chain, Brand, Warehouse, and on-site quality teams. The role is primarily UK-focused with a smaller remit supporting other European markets. You'll be based at the Nuneaton fulfillment site.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in food technical or quality roles (retailer, brand, or manufacturer side)
- Solid grounding in HACCP, allergen management, specifications, risk assessment, and UK food law
- Food safety qualifications (e.g., HACCP, Food Safety Level 4, BRCGS auditor training) are a plus
- Confident supplier auditor and manager with experience carrying out on-site audits; able to hold suppliers to clear standards firmly and constructively; willing and able to make regular supplier visits
- Experience building quality processes and frameworks (not just running them)
- Comfortable applying quality and risk fundamentals beyond food (e.g., candles, toys, non-food gifts); able to bring in specialist input where needed
- Strong ability to translate complex technical information into clear, commercially grounded recommendations for non-technical stakeholders
- Methodical, precise, and detail-oriented with consistently high delivery standards
- Proactive, takes responsibility and initiative; willing to roll up sleeves
- Problem-solving mindset with logical and collaborative approach
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
