Freeform builds AI-native manufacturing systems that unify software, hardware, and physics to produce industrial-scale parts at the speed of human ideation. As a Senior IT Systems Engineer, you will own the infrastructure that connects people, factory, and data across identity and endpoints, servers and storage, cloud and Kubernetes, networking, and security.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Azure in hybrid setup with on-premises Active Directory, including Entra Connect, conditional access, RBAC, and licensing
- Administer device fleet in Intune: enrollment, compliance, app deployment, Autopilot, and patching
- Build and maintain Windows Server (AD DS, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, RADIUS/NPS) and hardened Ubuntu and Red Hat servers
- Operate virtualization and SAN storage (Pure Storage, HPE 3PAR over iSCSI and NFS), including provisioning, replication, and capacity planning
- Run and manage AWS infrastructure including EKS, S3, IAM, and VPC networking with ownership of access control, monitoring, and cost
- Administer Kubernetes both on-premises and in EKS: cluster builds and upgrades, networking and ingress, storage, RBAC, and workload troubleshooting
- Design and maintain Layer 2/3 network with segmentation across user, server, management, OT, and guest zones
- Operate Defender XDR, Sentinel, and pfSense firewalls: tune detections, investigate incidents, drive vulnerability remediation and least-privilege access
- Design and build custom solutions where off-the-shelf tools fall short; automate repetitive work
- Act as senior escalation point for infrastructure incidents and lead root-cause analysis
- Document systems in runbooks and diagrams; mentor junior IT staff
- Join on-call rotation and planned after-hours maintenance windows
The role is part of a rapidly scaling company building novel manufacturing technology, so you'll move fast and build systems as the company grows across headcount, locations, and new technology.
Requirements:
- 7+ years in systems administration or infrastructure engineering, with 3+ years in a senior or lead role
- Ownership of mixed Windows, Linux, cloud, and network environments
- Production experience administering and troubleshooting: hybrid Microsoft 365, Intune, and Azure (on-premises AD synced to Entra ID, hybrid join, co-existence, and migration); Windows Server DNS, DHCP, and RADIUS/NPS; Ubuntu and Red Hat (systemd, storage, networking, hardening, command-line troubleshooting)
- Hands-on experience with vSphere, Hyper-V, or OpenShift, plus SAN storage over iSCSI and NFS (specifically Pure Storage and HPE 3PAR)
- AWS (EKS, S3, IAM), Azure, or GCP experience
- Kubernetes administration (on-premises and cloud)
- Layer 2/3 networking knowledge: VLANs, ACLs, segmentation, MLAG, and LACP
- Experience with security tools and practices (Defender XDR, Sentinel, or equivalent)
- Ability to design and implement custom infrastructure solutions
- Strong troubleshooting and incident response skills
