Eli Lilly seeks a Technical Lead Architect (R5) to transform regulatory and scientific communications workflows into AI-driven, agentic automated processes. This role is 70% hands-on technical execution (coding, architecture design) and 30% strategy, operating within Global Regulatory Affairs (GRA) and Global Scientific Communications (GSC) functions.
The role owns the AI and agentic strategy across the GRA/GSC portfolio, identifying opportunities to replace manual, siloed process steps with intelligent automation while preserving human-in-the-loop checkpoints for judgment and accountability. You will define governance models, operating frameworks, and architectural patterns enabling secure, cyber-hardened AI workflows. You'll establish reusable architecture patterns and reference models to accelerate delivery and improve sustainability.
Key responsibilities include: leading AI-driven process transformation with human oversight; defining and owning AI/GenAI/Agentic strategy; designing governance and operating models; owning technology strategy and roadmap for the portfolio; partnering with business leadership on capability planning; evaluating emerging technologies and leading portfolio rationalization; ensuring solutions meet enterprise architecture standards for scalability, security, resilience, and compliance; and mentoring technical leaders and engineering teams.
You will work across regulatory submissions, labeling, clinical trial disclosures, and scientific publications—all operating under strict compliance and audit-readiness requirements. The role shapes the future technology landscape, aligning business strategy with technology investment and AI innovation to drive operational excellence and scalable growth.
Required expertise includes: Generative AI and Agentic AI systems; agentic workflows and multi-agent architecture; agent design patterns (ReAct, Plan-and-Execute, Reflection); agent frameworks (LangGraph, AutoGen); advanced prompt engineering and context engineering; vector databases and embeddings (Pinecone, OpenSearch); MCP (Model Context Protocol); agent observability and memory management; evaluation frameworks; knowledge modeling; intelligent automation; enterprise and platform architecture; cloud platforms (AWS/Azure); containerization and Kubernetes; security and compliance architecture; data architecture; API and integration architecture; event-driven architecture; platform engineering; and Python.
Qualifications: Proven track record developing and executing enterprise technology strategies. Demonstrated success leading large-scale digital transformation initiatives, including AI-driven and agentic automation. Experience driving technology investments, portfolio modernization, and architecture governance. Track record of successfully leading through ambiguity, complexity, and organizational transformation. Additional qualifications include experience in both Global Regulatory Affairs and Scientific Communications; familiarity with Regulatory Content and Submission Management, Veeva RIM, and regulatory platforms; experience with document and content management ecosystems; and background in pharma and GxP-regulated environments.
