FloQast, an AI-powered accounting transformation platform trusted by 3,500+ accounting teams (including Lululemon, DoorDash, MLB), is seeking an Engineering Manager for its Core AI team in Pune. You will lead and scale a high-performing team of software and AI engineers responsible for architecting and deploying production AI systems that power FloQast's accounting automation platform and vision of an AI accountant teammate.
Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will balance people leadership, operational excellence, and technical expertise in modern AI paradigms. Your responsibilities include:
**Team Leadership & Development:** Lead, manage, mentor, and develop teams of AI software engineers. Drive career growth through consistent coaching, performance management, and continuous feedback.
**AI Technical Direction & Delivery:** Guide your team in architecting and delivering scalable production AI products, including intelligent chatbots, document processing systems, and agentic workflows using Python and modern AI frameworks.
**Recruiting & Site Growth:** Actively recruit, interview, and retain top-tier AI engineering talent to expand FloQast's Core AI capabilities in India.
**Global Collaboration:** Partner with product managers, QA, architecture, security, and global engineering leaders to design and implement FloQast's centralized AI platform (model routing, provider management, vector search).
**Process & Culture:** Cultivate an engineering culture of innovative, high-trust problem solving. Champion lean software development, Agile principles, and robust LLMOps/DevOps practices for AI systems.
**Production Excellence:** Ensure your team builds robust, compliant, and observable AI products that integrate seamlessly with diverse technologies (accounting systems, external APIs) in a B2B SaaS environment.
**Requirements:**
- 5+ years of software engineering management experience with a track record of leading teams to deliver complex backend or AI products to a paying customer base
- 5+ years of experience as an individual contributor software engineer with strong background in Python, backend development, and cloud-native environments (AWS preferred)
- Production AI experience: familiarity with LLM APIs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), conversational AI, and scalable system design for AI products
- Proven experience leading and managing geographically distributed teams, driving alignment across time zones
- Hands-on experience recruiting, interviewing, and managing engineering personnel with strong track record of performance management and career growth
- 5+ years working on teams using Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) with commitment to automated testing, CI/CD, and DevOps practices
- Strong ability to communicate complex system designs and AI strategies to both technical and business stakeholders
**Nice to Haves:**
- Experience managing managers of software engineering teams
- Hands-on experience with advanced RAG architectures, reranking systems, semantic search systems, or AI observability/monitoring tools
- Experience working on B2B SaaS products, particularly in financial or accounting space
- Familiarity with MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node) for seamless AI-core application integration
- Knowledge of model context protocols (MCP) or reinforcement learning techniques (RLHF)
