Wayve is building the leading AI platform for autonomous driving, pioneering an end-to-end AI approach that enables vehicles to learn directly from real-world experience. The company develops mapless, hardware-agnostic technology that adapts, generalizes, and improves at scale.
In this Tech Lead Manager role, you will lead a small team (up to five people) focused on iterating on Robotaxi driving performance. This is a hybrid role combining hands-on technical leadership with people management—you'll spend significant time writing code and running experiments while also setting team priorities and growing the team as the Robotaxi program scales.
Your day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Leading a small engineering team on Robotaxi driving performance, balancing technical work with people leadership
- Diagnosing high-impact issues observed on the road, identifying root causes, and resolving them through data and model iteration
- Owning changes to data recipes, model architecture, evaluation, and release readiness for the driving model
- Partnering cross-functionally to resolve issues spanning model and vehicle interfaces
- Serving as a key hands-on developer, writing code and running experiments while setting team priorities
You'll work on the end-to-end driving model powering Wayve's Robotaxi product as it launches globally, scaling driving performance across cities and vehicle platforms while meeting performance and compliance KPIs. The work is data-led, using on-road and off-road evaluation to identify and close performance gaps.
Wayve operates a hybrid model with main hubs in London, Sunnyvale, Yokohama, Herzliya, Vancouver, and Leonberg. The company combines in-person collaboration with remote flexibility and offers relocation support, visa sponsorship, learning budgets, comprehensive benefits including health insurance, dental, enhanced parental leave, retirement/pension, and access to therapists and wellbeing partnerships.
REQUIREMENTS:
Essential:
- Prior experience managing engineers; you want to lead a team while staying deeply technical (this is a Tech Lead Manager role, not pure management)
- Highly technical and hands-on: comfortable writing Python and performing model and data iteration yourself, not just directing others
- Demonstrated delivery of deployed, production ML models or productionized ML at another company, with experience improving a live system iteratively over time
- Experience focused on production rather than primarily research or early-stage exploration
Desirable:
- Shipped and iterated on ML for robotics, autonomous vehicles, or other embodied AI
- Worked on end-to-end driving models or large-scale model training
Note: The posting encourages applications from those passionate about autonomy even if not meeting every requirement.
