Neara is building engineering-grade, physics-enabled digital twins of electricity grids across four continents using advanced machine learning. The company helps asset owners understand infrastructure challenges and optimize solutions across millions of kilometers of power networks. By simulating extreme weather and structural stress at network-wide scale, Neara empowers utilities to pinpoint risks, optimize investments, and build resilient energy systems. You will lead Neara's Experience Platform team, taking technical ownership of the platform's usability, performance, and visual appeal across desktop and mobile. This is a people-first leadership role with strong technical depth—you'll split time between leading the team and driving delivery while remaining hands-on to guide system design and tackle complex technical challenges. TEAM LEADERSHIP & DELIVERY - Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team, supporting technical development and career progression - Own delivery for your team's domain: set clear goals, define milestones, ensure reliable and sustainable shipping - Own workflows and development practices balancing speed, quality, and long-term maintainability - Create clarity in ambiguous problem spaces, breaking down complex technical challenges into achievable plans - Foster strong collaboration with Product, Design, Customer Success, and Sales teams - Partner with other Tech Lead Managers to raise the bar across engineering and scale Neara's engineering culture TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP (HANDS-ON) You will be hands-on with parts of the stack using Dart, JavaScript, Flutter, Rust, and WebGL for rendering and interacting with large-scale 3D models and rich dashboards in the browser. You'll contribute to system design and architectural decisions, write and review production-quality code across performance-critical, data-intensive components, and shape the client and product UX end-to-end—UI, design systems, rendering and interaction performance, and 3D visualization of large networks. You'll build capabilities other engineering teams depend on (APIs, extension points, shared components) as well as features end users touch directly. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Care deeply about end-user app experience: UI, design systems, performance, and 3D rendering. You notice details that make applications feel considered and hold your team to that bar - Scale user experience to millions of objects: aggregation, loading/unloading concerns, and visualization techniques that keep interfaces responsive at scale - Enable other engineering teams and end users: get to know your customers (internal and external), elicit good requirements, and improve the platform - Harmonize user experiences across many use cases, bringing coherence to a product used by different roles for different jobs - Build product engineering for expert tooling: strong track record with dense, stateful, expert-user tools (CAD, design tools like Figma, GIS, IDEs, serious data viz) REQUIREMENTS - Technical people-leader who has owned delivery end-to-end: comfortable operating across engineering and product, accountable for outcomes, with experience leading, mentoring, and growing engineers at multiple levels - Get up to speed fast in unfamiliar territory: walk into new technical areas, build context independently, find the heart of problems, and deliver - Product sense and strong partnership with Product: keep team focused on customer outcomes, stay close to what utilities face, bring engineering perspective to hard, open-ended problems - Plan a route, then adapt as you learn: deliver ambitious, complex projects incrementally, ship real progress, and change course on evidence - Deep technical credibility: strong track record architecting and shipping complex, production-grade systems with sound judgment on trade-offs - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent practical experience - No-ego, outcome-oriented, detail-obsessed mindset NICE-TO-HAVES - Experience owning a design system, component library, or platform SDK that other teams depended on - Experience with graphics, WebGL/GPU work, or rendering large 3D scenes in browser or desktop client - Consumer product background - Exposure to geospatial systems, utilities, energy, simulation, or physics-based platforms; strong mathematical reasoning or background in mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering; experience building software that models the real world
