ROLLER is a global SaaS platform operating across 30+ countries, powering ticketing, point of sale, memberships, kiosks, and digital waivers for the leisure and attractions industry. The company serves millions of real-world experiences and processes thousands of requests per second across hundreds of containers, powering over 100 million guest experiences annually.
This is a hands-on leadership role based in Sydney (hybrid, three days per week in office). You will line manage a team of engineers while remaining 70–80% hands-on, shipping code most days. You'll set technical direction, break down work, unblock your team, and drive delivery. Responsibilities include regular 1:1s, performance management, career development, hiring, and coaching through code reviews and pairing.
Your squad owns critical product areas: memberships and recurring billing, loyalty and promotions, channel management and resellers, and localization for new markets. You'll partner closely with product managers and designers from discovery through release, challenging both user experience and technical approach. You'll also collaborate with the SRE team to monitor system performance and proactively identify issues.
The backend stack is C#, .NET, T-SQL, and AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SES, SQS). The frontend uses Angular alongside ROLLER's design system and component library. You'll work across the full stack, building backend services, APIs, and Angular interfaces that operators and guests use daily.
ROLLER is a fast adopter of AI and new technology. Engineers use Claude and other AI coding tools day to day, and the company empowers team members to own their learning and use the latest tools to supercharge impact.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Six-plus years in software engineering, including time as a tech lead, lead engineer, or go-to senior on a squad, with desire to line manage people
- Deep backend experience in C# and .NET; comfortable working across the full stack with front-end experience
- Deep knowledge of cloud patterns, application and database performance, with experience applying them to varying workflows and workloads
- Experience leading a production incident through to post-mortem and fix
- Track record of mentoring engineers and genuine enjoyment of it
- Willingness to push back on product when user experience isn't right
- High appetite for technology and AI; comfort using AI tools to automate repetitive work
- Note: If most recent experience is in another modern backend language (Java, Go, Kotlin, Python), candidates are encouraged to apply if keen to work in .NET day to day.
