You will lead a small engineering team as a Team Lead Manager, combining hands-on technical leadership with people management. This is not a hands-off role: you'll remain deeply technical, writing code regularly, reviewing PRs, and solving hard technical problems alongside your team. You'll set technical direction for your team's problem space, own architecture and design decisions, and manage trade-offs between speed, quality, and maintainability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Line-managing engineers: running 1:1s, giving feedback, helping them tackle bigger problems, and building the team as Omnea doubles in size
- Staying deeply technical: spending meaningful time writing code and unblocking the hardest technical challenges
- Owning technical direction and architecture for your team's domain
- Partnering closely with Product Managers and Designers on prioritization, scoping, and roadmap sequencing
- Engaging directly with customers to understand problems and ensure your team builds high-impact solutions
- Setting the bar for AI-native development practices (Claude, agentic workflows)
- Interviewing and onboarding new engineers as the team grows
The tech stack includes TypeScript across the stack, React, Postgres, AWS serverless (Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge), Pulumi, GitHub Actions, Datadog, Meticulous, and Incident.io.
Omnea operates hybrid: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in-person at the Victoria office in London. The company emphasizes talent density, high bar hiring, and real ownership for every team member.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Highly technical full-stack engineer with proven ability to design and ship web apps end-to-end in TypeScript, ideally on AWS serverless
- Experience as a Tech Lead, Team Lead, or Team Lead Manager, owning delivery and technical direction for a team
- Line-management experience with engineers, or strong motivation to grow into the role
- Continued passion for building and shipping code; leadership should not have pulled you away from hands-on work
- Ability to raise the bar through code reviews, pairing, and clear feedback
- Motivated by customer impact and outcomes, not just output
- Strong partnership skills with product and design teams; ability to push back constructively
- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to shape unclear problems and move teams forward
NICE-TO-HAVES:
- Experience leading a team through fast growth at a scale-up
- B2B or enterprise SaaS experience with complex workflows and demanding customers
- Exceptional track record in academics, sport, or other domains
