Zopa is a fintech company founded in 2005 as the first peer-to-peer lending platform, and now operates Zopa Bank, a customer-centric digital bank. This Tax Manager role is a senior individual contributor position within the Finance & Accounting function, reporting to the tax leadership team. Key Responsibilities: - Own preparation and submission of annual UK Corporation Tax returns and VAT returns for all Zopa entities, coordinating with external advisers as needed. - Manage all other applicable UK tax filings including CT61 returns and Stamp Duty Reserve taxes. - Lead the preparation and submission of UK R&D tax relief claims, serving as the primary point of contact for Product teams contributing to R&D documentation. - Act as the primary point of contact for HMRC, managing enquiries, correspondence, and tax compliance matters. - Identify opportunities to improve tax processes through automation, standardization, and enhanced controls. - Support preparation and submission of the annual Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) certification and maintain appropriate control frameworks and policies. - Own and maintain the Group's tax risk register, ensuring ongoing and emerging tax risks are identified, documented, and mitigated. - Support the year-end audit process by preparing tax disclosures, tax provisions, and responding to auditor queries. - Provide tax advice and support to Finance, Product, Treasury, Legal, and other teams on new products, transactions, and commercial initiatives, utilizing external tax advisors where appropriate. - Build relationships with business functions, tax authorities, and professional advisory firms to identify priorities and undertake appropriate tax planning. - Monitor changes in UK tax legislation and assess impact on the business, ensuring timely implementation. - Serve as an engaged, pragmatic member of the financial control team, making tax more accessible across the business and providing training where appropriate. Workplace: Hybrid role based in London, requiring 2-3 days per week in the office. Option to work from abroad up to 120 days per year (subject to work authorization). Requirements: - ACA, ACCA, and/or CTA qualified (or equivalent). - Strong experience managing UK corporate tax compliance within financial services or banking. - Experience with preparing VAT returns within ERP systems such as SAP. - Experience implementing tax process improvements or finance transformation initiatives. - Exposure to transfer pricing or international tax is advantageous but not essential.
