Adapt is building a company agent platform that makes every organization AI-native. The platform provides a universal AI harness that works across systems, tools, data, and people within a business, enabling teams to ask, build, analyze, automate, and act across internal operations. The company was founded by repeat founders and operators (Jim Benton from ClearSlide/Apollo.io/Chorus.ai, Sean Smith from GlareDB/Coder, and John Andrew Entwistle from Coder/Wander) and has raised $13 million from Headline, Activant, Susa Ventures, and accomplished operators.
In this Systems Engineer role, you will own the infrastructure that enables Adapt agents to run code and complete real work. This is a product-focused engineering position where you'll work directly with customers, ship user-facing improvements, and measure success through reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and scaling secure, multi-tenant sandbox orchestration and distributed storage systems
- Improving the reliability, performance, and cost of customer workloads
- Owning deployments, observability, runbooks, and on-call support for the systems you ship
- Working directly with customers and engineers to solve problems across infrastructure and product
- Making clear architecture decisions, shipping in small increments, and helping teammates grow
The company prefers candidates who can work from the Presidio office in San Francisco but is open to remote work or relocation for the right candidate.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of engineering experience with substantial infrastructure ownership, ideally at an early-stage company
- Experience operating multi-tenant compute systems, including isolation, reliability, and cost considerations
- Strong Rust or Go skills, Linux fundamentals, and fluency in TypeScript or willingness to learn
- Hands-on cloud, Kubernetes, and container or microVM experience, including runtimes such as Firecracker or gVisor
