The DNS systems are custom-built internally with proprietary technology designed to operate at massive scale.
As a Systems Engineer on the DNS team, you will be a key contributor to core infrastructure that powers millions of Internet properties. You will take ownership of medium-to-large projects from initial design through successful completion, acting as a natural point of contact and mentor for junior engineers. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on solving complex distributed systems problems with minimal supervision.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and expanding DNS infrastructure while implementing customer-facing features
- Writing high-quality, maintainable, well-tested code that simplifies and improves systems
- Becoming a subject matter expert for moderately complex systems and serving as a go-to resource for your projects
- Proactively identifying issues and proposing effective solutions to improve processes and technology
- Collaborating with Product and other stakeholders on product requirement documents
- Mentoring and onboarding junior team members through thoughtful code and design reviews
- Debugging and resolving complex service issues with minimal assistance, improving resilience through refactoring and re-architecting
- Owning changes beyond code: rollout, monitoring, on-call responsibilities, and follow-up
Requirements:
- BA/BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong systems programming fundamentals including performance, concurrency, and networking
- Production code experience in Rust or Go, or demonstrated ability to learn comparable languages quickly
- Habit of measuring before optimizing and reasoning about failure modes
- Ability to drive projects to completion and scope work effectively for yourself and team members
- DNS experience is welcome but not required
Bonus qualifications:
- Experience running established team meetings or technical discussions
- Contributions to technical documentation or talks that guide your team or organization
- Experience interviewing and providing meaningful feedback on technical candidates
- Familiarity with building services in large-scale, high-performance environments

- Knowledge of DNSSEC and DNS security extensions
- Knowledge of HTTP, TLS, and CDN networks
