DeepDrive is seeking a System Engineer specializing in robotic actuators to join the System Engineering team in Garching. In this role, you will own the complete actuator system—motor, inverter, gearbox, and sensors—that powers the joints of humanoid robots. You will translate real-world humanoid use cases into clear joint load profiles and actuator requirements, then break those requirements down to the component level (torque, speed, stiffness, back drivability, mass, package space). You will define and evolve the actuator architecture, establish interfaces between components and robot platforms (mechanical, electrical, thermal, communication), and build system models using electromagnetic and thermal simulations. Key responsibilities include aligning requirements with customers and tracking them throughout development, assessing continuous load capability and efficiency, defining validation strategies at the system level, specifying and evaluating test bench and integration tests, and serving as the technical point of contact for humanoid manufacturers on requirements, sample deliveries, and integration. You will also provide the technical foundation for customer requests, RFIs, and RFQs. This role combines deep systems engineering work with direct customer engagement. You will work closely with colleagues responsible for individual components and testing, acting as the bridge between internal development and external customers in the humanoid robotics space. REQUIREMENTS: - Degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or related field - 3+ years of professional experience in humanoid robotics, ideally with actuators - Deep knowledge of system requirements in robotics - Experience in actuator system integration: motor, inverter, gearbox, and encoder - Experience in system-level testing and validation of humanoids - Very good English and confidence in technical discussions with customers - Simulation background (EMAG or thermal) is a plus - Knowledge of encoders and position sensors is a plus
