Inductive Bio is an AI-powered medicinal chemistry platform that helps drug discovery teams accelerate the Design-Make-Test-Analyze (DMTA) cycle. The company has raised $30M from top-tier investors (Obvious Ventures, a16z Bio + Health, Lux Capital) and secured a $21M ARPA-H CATALYST award for next-generation toxicity models.
As a Synthetic Chemist, you will bridge computational design and experimental chemistry, combining hands-on synthesis expertise with digital tools to advance drug discovery programs. Reporting directly to the VP of Medicinal Chemistry, you'll work onsite in Boston with regular lab presence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, optimize, and troubleshoot synthetic routes across diverse medicinal chemistry programs
- Translate practical synthesis knowledge into digital workflows that optimize routes, identify reaction conditions, and streamline CRO communication
- Oversee synthesis activities with CRO partners, leveraging both chemistry expertise and Inductive's technology platform
- Train and mentor laboratory technicians on safe, effective, and reproducible execution
- Develop strategic approaches to compound and intermediate supply, including route optimization and scale-up
- Collaborate with medicinal chemists, computational scientists, and engineers to improve design, synthesis, and testing workflows
- Help integrate hands-on chemistry expertise with AI-powered tools to reshape drug discovery approaches
You'll work on small molecule and beyond-rule-of-five programs for biotech and pharma partners, with access to Inductive's Beacon-2 ADMET prediction models, human dose projection tools, and Indy AI medicinal chemistry assistant.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Deep knowledge of modern synthetic methods with strong practical bench experience
- Proven track record solving complex synthetic challenges across diverse chemotypes, reaction types, and scales
- Demonstrated experience mentoring junior chemists or technicians
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to articulate synthetic strategies and troubleshoot with cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated experience managing synthesis CROs (both FTE-based teams and fee-for-service projects across multiple partners)
- Strategic thinking around material supply, route optimization, intermediate development, and synthesis scale-up
- Curiosity about emerging technologies and interest in applying AI agents and digital tools to synthesis workflows
BONUS:
- Experience overseeing scale-up synthesis for in vivo toxicology studies or late-stage drug discovery
- Experience applying AI, automation, or digital tools to synthetic chemistry workflows
- Experience at the intersection of medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry, and experimental drug discovery
