Saronic Technologies is developing autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) for maritime defense applications. We are seeking a Structures Engineer to lead structural design efforts for our advanced maritime technologies, ensuring the integrity and reliability of our autonomous platforms. In this role, you will own the structural design of ASV systems and subsystems from concept through prototyping and production. You will maintain and track design gates (PDR, CDR) and schedules for owned hardware, prepare and conduct design reviews of structural systems and subsystems, and support initial prototyping and build of new ASV platforms and variants. You will also support procurement of prototype hardware and supplier selection processes. Key responsibilities include producing engineering design definition artifacts (3D models in Siemens NX or Solidworks, and 2D drawings compliant with ASME Y14.5 standards), conducting preliminary structural sizing through hand calculations based on engineering first principles, and collaborating with hardware, product development, and production teams to optimize designs based on load cases. You will generate comprehensive technical reports and documentation to communicate design decisions and recommendations to internal teams and stakeholders. The role requires demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and expertise in structural analysis methodologies and best practices. You will occasionally travel as needed. QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's degree or greater in Mechanical Engineering or related field - 2+ years experience in structural analysis and simulation, using both stress hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) software such as Femap (preferred) or ANSYS - Strong understanding of structural mechanics and materials science, with experience applying these concepts to real-world engineering problems - Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and expertise in structural analysis methodologies and best practices - Excellent problem-solving skills and track record of innovative thinking to address challenging engineering issues - Effective communication skills with ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences - Ability to travel as needed
