Gravitics designs and manufactures large-scale orbital structures for commercial and government/defense missions. We are seeking a Staff Thermal Engineer to own thermal design and integration across our orbital platforms, from concept through on-orbit operations.
In this role, you will:
• Own thermal design and integration for orbital structures, managing both in-house and purchased subsystems, and handling thermal interface requirements for internal and external customers.
• Write and maintain system architectures, requirements documents, and development roadmaps for thermal systems.
• Perform component selection and detailed thermal analysis across the full hardware lifecycle.
• Supervise contract and in-house manufacturing of thermal subsystems.
• Support test, qualification, and on-orbit operations.
• Mentor junior engineers, sharing best practices and experience-based lessons.
• Present confidently at engineering design reviews, contribute to proposals and funding opportunities, and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
You will work across multiple locations (Seattle, Denver, Cape Canaveral, Houston) as a key technical leader on our hardware-focused team, driving thermal systems from napkin sketch to operational performance.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
• Deep thermal engineering expertise built across the full hardware lifecycle—from concept to on-orbit performance.
• Demonstrated ability to work comfortably at both the whiteboard (system design) and in thermal vacuum chambers (testing and validation).
• Track record of raising the bar for engineers around you and proactively identifying and solving problems without waiting to be told.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• ITAR Compliance: Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
