Anduril Industries is a defense technology company building advanced autonomous systems powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system for military command and control. The Stateful Systems team owns the data layer—time-series and storage systems that handle every track, sensor reading, and tasking record produced by the platform. These systems run in field deployments, so performance and reliability directly impact operator capability.
The team is small and currently undertaking a core systems rebuild, offering significant ownership and architectural influence. This is an opportunity to join at a pivotal moment with broad technical surface area.
You will own the redesign and operation of critical infrastructure:
**Time-Series Systems**: Redesign the time-series engine from the ground up to scale horizontally across many writers and nodes. The immediate requirement is concrete: 350+ sensor towers and tens of thousands of camera feeds ingesting continuously, with both live and historical query support.
**Distributed Storage**: Build high-availability durability systems including WAL replication, leader election, a pluggable storage-engine layer, and zero-downtime migration paths between backends.
**Correctness Under Partition**: These systems sometimes run disconnected. You'll focus on getting consistency and convergence right when the network is unreliable—a central part of the role.
**Hard Distributed-Systems Problems**: Tackle consistency models, replication protocols, compaction and deletion at scale, back pressure, and durability guarantees.
The role emphasizes ownership and shipping. The team is small enough that your work is visible and load-bearing, with real mission backing and resources to execute well.
**Requirements:**
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field, or equivalent experience
- 6+ years of professional software development experience, with focus on distributed systems or robotics
- Deep experience with Python, Go, C++, Rust, or similar systems programming languages
- Solid distributed-systems fundamentals: ability to reason about replication, consistency, partition behavior, and failure modes; ability to explain why a given design does or doesn't converge
- Production experience building or operating storage engines, databases, or large-scale data infrastructure
- Comfort in a systems language; depth matters more than the specific language used
- Bias toward shipping and owning work; understanding that the team is small and what you build is load-bearing
**Nice to Have:**
- Time-series systems, LSM or B-tree storage internals, or experience with FoundationDB, RocksDB, Pebble, or similar KV stores
- Experience with systems that run in resource-constrained or intermittently-connected environments
