Salary: USD 213,480 - 319,720 / annual
Nuro is building a universal autonomy platform for Level 4 autonomous driving technology. The Routing Team is responsible for critical services that enable the Nuro Driver to reach destinations safely and efficiently, including routing engine optimization, accurate ETA calculation, and scalable traffic management across expanding geographies and evolving mapping infrastructure.
In this Staff-level role, you will architect and scale both backend systems and onboard modules for the Routing team. Your work will span designing microservices, optimizing routing algorithms, working with road network graphs, building monitoring and analytics infrastructure, and optimizing deployment pipelines. You will collaborate closely with product, strategy, and operations teams to design user experiences, define product strategy, and shape the roadmap.
This is a high-impact position at a well-funded company (raised $2B+ from Uber, NVIDIA, Google, SoftBank, Fidelity, T. Rowe Price, and others) with real-world deployment experience. You will influence how millions of autonomous vehicles navigate the world.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of experience building and scaling real-time server-side applications
- Proven track record working on large-scale complex algorithm problems, balancing correctness and performance
- Deep expertise selecting and working with storage technologies: relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL), non-relational systems (BigTable, Cassandra, Redis), and data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake)
- Experience with RPC frameworks (gRPC, Thrift) and pub/sub systems (Kafka, Cloud PubSub, Celery)
- Extensive cloud provider experience (GCP, AWS)
- Experience with Docker & Kubernetes (or willingness to learn)
- Broad technical skill set with passion for learning new technologies
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with PMs, UXRs, and engineers
- Impact-driven mindset with focus on user outcomes

- Experience with routing algorithms
