Salary: USD 200,000 - 270,000 / annual

The Product Experiences team builds the features users interact with daily across the Peregrine platform. As a Staff Software Engineer on this team, you will have vast ownership across core capabilities including Search, Dossier, Charts, Dashboards, Maps, Network, Table, Workspace, Docs, Automations, and Mobile. You will work cross-functionally with design and product management to ship experiences that are fast, intuitive, and trustworthy, turning enormous amounts of data into something an investigator or analyst can act on in seconds.
Key responsibilities include:
- Taking full responsibility for major features and driving them to completion
- Building search and semantic discovery that helps users find answers across billions of records
- Designing Dossier views that assemble a complete picture of an entity on demand
- Crafting real-time, collaborative experiences on detailed maps and networks
- Bringing AI-powered capabilities to users with emphasis on source transparency and trust
- Obsessing over craft details such as latency, interaction design, and resilience
- Collaborating directly with deployment teams and users to iterate and solve problems
The engineering team values empathy, ownership, collaboration, humility, and perseverance. You will work closely with the team onsite to understand the variety of use cases Peregrine serves.
Tech Stack: Frontend (React, Redux, TypeScript, Mapbox); Backend (Python, Django, Celery, Airflow, Kafka); Data stores (PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch); ML (Bedrock, Sagemaker); Infrastructure (AWS, Pulumi, Terraform, Kubernetes).
REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of experience working with cross-functional software development teams
- Experience shipping and iterating on production-grade, user-facing software professionally and/or in open-source community
- Strong frontend fundamentals (React/TypeScript) and comfort working full-stack to ship features end-to-end
- Ability to write robust, well-tested, well-designed code that frequently gets deployed to users
- Solid understanding of architecting and scaling distributed software systems
- Strong best practices in modern software development and comfort navigating large codebases
- Located in San Francisco or Washington, D.C. and open to working in office 4 days per week
