Salary: USD 200,000 - 275,000 / annual
Peregrine Technologies, backed by leading Silicon Valley investors, builds an AI-enabled platform that helps public safety organizations, state and local governments, federal agencies, and private-sector institutions convert siloed data into operational intelligence. The platform currently serves hundreds of customers across 30+ states and two countries, reaching over 125 million people.
You will join the Product Experiences team, responsible for building the user-facing features that define how customers interact with the Peregrine platform daily. This includes Search, Dossier, Charts, Dashboards, Maps, Network, Table, Workspace, Docs, Automations, and Mobile capabilities.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will have vast ownership across these product areas, making architectural and design decisions that shape the platform for years. You'll tackle highly visible challenges: building search and semantic discovery across billions of records, designing entity dossier views that assemble complete pictures on demand, and crafting real-time collaborative experiences on maps and networks. You'll integrate AI-powered capabilities while maintaining source transparency and trust, and obsess over craft details—latency, interaction design, resilience—that make complex workflows feel effortless.
You'll work cross-functionally with design, product management, deployment teams, and users to iterate and solve real problems. The engineering culture values both ownership and collaboration, with an emphasis on empathy, humility, and perseverance.
The tech stack includes: React, Redux, TypeScript, and Mapbox on the frontend; Python, Django, Celery, Airflow, and Kafka on the backend; PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch for data; Bedrock and SageMaker for ML models; and AWS, Pulumi, Terraform, and Kubernetes for infrastructure.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of experience working with cross-functional software development teams
- Proven track record shipping and iterating on production-grade, user-facing software professionally and/or in open-source
- Strong frontend fundamentals (React/TypeScript) with comfort working full-stack to ship features end-to-end
- Ability to write robust, well-tested, well-designed code frequently deployed to users
- Solid understanding of architecting and scaling distributed software systems
- Strong best practices in modern software development and comfort navigating large codebases
- Located in San Francisco or Washington, D.C., open to working in office 4 days per week
