Snowflake is building a world-class OLTP service on Postgres and seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help architect and develop the new Snowflake Postgres service. This is a high-impact opportunity to design and build a large-scale, multi-cloud Postgres offering with immediate access to Snowflake's existing customer base.
In this role, you will develop the orchestration layer and control plane for large-scale databases, working across AWS, Azure, and GCP cloud platforms. You'll architect and implement High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions, tune Postgres to operate at scale for some of the world's largest datasets, and ensure customer data security and protection. You'll collaborate with world-class engineers to invent across multiple layers of the software stack—from distributed systems architecture to low-level performance optimizations that fundamentally improve system characteristics.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of industry experience designing, building, and developing large-scale systems in production
- Experience building and maintaining distributed, highly available, fault-tolerant services
- Excellent understanding of low-level operating systems concepts: multi-threading, memory management, networking, storage, performance, and scale
- Extremely strong fundamental computer science skills
- Proficiency with Java, Python/Ruby, and Go
- Experience running and maintaining large Postgres servers
- Familiarity with cloud networking (VPCs, PrivateLink, Peering, etc.)
- Experience working with remote, geographically distributed teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
PLUS (not required):
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science
- Deep, expert knowledge of Postgres (WAL, extensions, configuration, replication, etc.)
- Experience designing and implementing large systems for public or private clouds
- FedRAMP and DoD deployment experience
