Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities through advanced autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology. The Maritime Division is scaling at historic pace, anchored by Arsenal-2, a new software-defined shipyard in Baltimore County, Maryland, as part of a $6.6 billion investment in America's submarine industrial base. The division is currently prototyping advanced manufacturing methods and digital workflows at a 160,000 square foot Proto-Factory in Orange County, California.
You will own navigation, guidance, and control (GN&C) architecture for a maritime autonomous vehicle, reporting to the Cognitive Systems Lead. You will lead a team covering inertial navigation, safe navigation systems, and actuation control software. Your responsibilities include defining how the vehicle knows its position, determines its destination, and executes navigation in GPS-denied ocean environments.
Key responsibilities:
- Own GN&C architecture: inertial navigation, safe navigation, actuation control software, depth keeping and hover
- Lead INS integration and GPS-denied navigation solution development
- Drive Safe Navigation System design and safety certification approach
- Define actuation and control software requirements in coordination with body subsystem
- Manage navigation compute requirements and hardware selection
- Lead trade studies across navigation sensor suites and fusion approaches, including make vs. buy decisions
- Lead and mentor IC3/4 engineers across GN&C sub-disciplines
- Interface with VMS, communications, and mission systems teams
- Support prototype integration, testing, and sea trials
- Travel up to 25% to test sites and customer locations
You will leverage diverse technical expertise and leadership skills to set objectives, build cross-functional teams, and drive rapid completion. Success requires intuition and prior experience executing highly optimized multi-disciplinary projects.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or equivalent
- 8+ years of experience in GN&C, inertial navigation, or vehicle control systems
- Experience with INS, Kalman filtering, or sensor fusion
- Familiarity with control system design for marine or aerospace vehicles
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with AUV, UUV, or submarine navigation systems
- Working knowledge of GPS-denied navigation techniques (DVL, USBL, terrain-aided navigation)
- Experience with safety-critical navigation system design
- Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent modeling tools
- Experience in defense or maritime robotics
