Dune Analytics is the industry standard for onchain data, serving 1,000+ institutional customers including Visa, WisdomTree, FINRA, the IMF, Bloomberg, and Standard Chartered. The company is building market data solutions that turn onchain activity into realtime feeds, reference data, and historical data capture for institutional customers who need timely, accurate, and reliable financial data.
In this hands-on Staff Engineer role, you will design and build distributed systems for ingestion, normalization, processing, storage, and delivery of realtime market data from blockchain and other sources. You'll work on the new market data platform, shaping its evolution to support growing features and customer bases while making clear decisions about correctness, latency, reliability, and cost.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and build distributed systems for realtime market data pipelines across chains and protocols
- Build and operate streaming solutions handling event ordering, timestamps, duplicates, replay, gaps, recovery, blockchain reorganizations, and finality
- Build reliable client feeds and APIs with clear delivery contracts, schema evolution, access controls, and predictable behavior under load
- Partner with teams on reference data models and historical data capture
- Define and improve service objectives and data quality measures
- Instrument latency, freshness, completeness, and correctness; turn incidents into lasting improvements
- Debug independently and drive root cause analysis to production fixes
- Own services through deployment and production support, including on-call rotation participation
- Use AI throughout development: explore designs, implement changes, build tests, investigate failures, improve documentation
- Lead technical decisions across team boundaries, write clear designs, and mentor engineers

REQUIREMENTS:
- Built and operated distributed backend or data services with demanding reliability and performance requirements; understand failure modes and can debug across service and data boundaries
- Experience with realtime streaming systems, including concurrency, state management, backpressure, and recovery; care about data correctness (timestamps, numeric precision, schema changes)
- Strong computer science fundamentals and backend engineering skills; experience in Rust, Go, or comparable languages valued
- Turn ambiguous requirements into pragmatic designs and production services; help other engineers deliver solution components
- Clear written communication and effective collaboration with distributed teams
- Financial or market data experience at a financial institution
NICE-TO-HAVE:
- Onchain data experience: blockchain indexing (EVM, Solana)
- Reference data experience: instrument and entity masters, identifier mapping, effective-dated records, tokenized asset and fund data
- Experience at a company where data is the product
