Orb is a revenue design platform helping teams automate billing, evolve pricing, and grow revenue with confidence. The company recently joined forces with Adyen, expanding its product scope and ambitions.
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Infrastructure team, you will play a key role in maintaining a high bar for reliability and performance across Orb's systems. Your customers depend on these systems being operational—downtime directly impacts their revenue.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead infrastructure resiliency efforts, including recovery mechanisms, tenant isolation, and load spike handling
- Improve observability and operability of systems to enable faster debugging and incident response
- Build performance-critical, user-facing infrastructure such as real-time event processing pipelines
- Plan and execute scaling initiatives to support large customer growth
- Partner with other engineering teams to ensure reliable product features are built from the ground up
- Mentor fellow engineers on best practices in observability, rollout strategies, and risk mitigation
- Learn from a talented peer group and share your expertise across the organization
You will work across the full infrastructure stack powering the product: event ingestion, API services, alerting, invoicing, and more. The tech stack includes Python (backend), PostgreSQL and Clickhouse (datastores), Kafka and Spark Streaming (streaming platforms), and AWS (cloud platform).
Orb operates a hybrid work culture: 3 days/week in office for San Francisco, New York, and Amsterdam residents. Remote roles are asked to join in person 1x per quarter.
Requirements:
- 9+ years of software engineering experience
- 2+ years working in the infrastructure domain
- Deep thinking about edge cases, failure modes, and bottlenecks
- Strong ability to investigate and debug tricky errors and performance issues
- Experience building scalable infrastructure for high-growth products
- Demonstrated ability to mentor fellow engineers on best practices
- Note: Specific experience with the tech stack is not required; Orb believes great engineers can learn any stack.
