Hinge Health is a leader in digital physical therapy and is expanding into new areas of care. In April 2026, they launched a Migraine Care Program, and are now building a new team to launch a Gastrointestinal (GI) Care Program. GI conditions affect roughly one in four U.S. adults and drive $135 billion in annual medical spending. The company's planned acquisition of Cylinder Health, a leader in virtual-first digestive healthcare, provides a strong foundation for entering this market.
As a Staff Software Engineer for GI, you will help shape an end-to-end digital care experience for people living with GI conditions. You will lead rapid experiments to validate assumptions, navigate complex technical and product challenges, and turn what you learn into a reliable, scalable product that can improve members' health at meaningful scale.
At Hinge Health, staff engineers are senior technical contributors who lead through code, technical judgment, and influence. You will set direction for critical systems, contribute to production code daily, raise the quality bar, and mentor other engineers without moving into people management. You will partner closely with senior leadership and teams across Product, Design, and Marketing in San Francisco, Montreal, and Bangalore.
In your first 3 months, you will help define the GI product line from scratch, build strong partnerships with Product, Design, and Marketing to align on strategy and experimentation roadmap, lead technical roadmap development spanning AI systems, UX interfaces, business logic middleware, hardware integration, and clinician support, and develop prototypes and proof-of-concepts for the hardest parts of the new product line.
In your first 6 months, you will build the GI product as a minimum lovable product delivering significant and measurable health improvement for members, mentor and pair with engineers on the pod to help them grow in engineering best practices and experimentation mindset, create engineering best practices for CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and client performance across the entire stack, and personally develop the hardest, most challenging software elements in the product roadmap.
In your first year, you will have launched the new product and work on iterations to adapt it using real member feedback post-launch, drive cross-team initiatives to improve the end-to-end journey for GI end users, and continuously raise engineering standards on the pod (testing, observability, reliability, accessibility, performance) while helping scale the team's impact as the product and membership grow.
You are expected to be a 0-to-1 builder with a track record of building brand new products from scratch, a talent magnet recognized as a leader whom others want to work with, and proficient in AI-driven development using the latest AI software development techniques. You move fast, balance innovation versus reuse, and deliver clear business results. You are a hands-on engineer reading and writing code across the tech stack (React Native, BFF/full-stack web, GraphQL, AI Agents, Computer Vision, Medical Device Integration, etc.), using that fluency to coach, review, and set technical direction. You are an experiment-driven operator who thinks in terms of hypotheses, sample sizes, and decision rules, and can run a dense A/B experimentation roadmap without sacrificing quality. You enjoy leveling up a strong but more junior team through pairing, code reviews, design discussions, and clear written communication. You have an owner mindset, thinking in terms of systems and business impact, not just tickets, and are comfortable taking a problem from idea through launch, measurement, and iteration. You create clear expectations, give direct feedback, and foster a culture where engineers can do the best work of their careers.
This is a hybrid role based in the San Francisco office, requiring in-person attendance three days per week for a full 8-hour business day. On remote days, employees are expected to work during core business hours with flexibility. The office is part of a dog-friendly workplace program, and while travel is not regularly required, occasional off-site/on-site events may occur.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience building in large React Native codebases, TypeScript/Node.js & Go backends, GraphQL, AWS services (Lambda, SQS, SNS, SageMaker), tooling for client performance, render optimization, devops and app architecture patterns
- Product integration mindset with history operating a product surface that integrates across multiple platforms owned by different teams
- Track record of running experiments (A/B tests or multivariate tests) on core product surfaces and using results to drive roadmap decisions
- Strong proficiency with TypeScript/JavaScript, React Native, and modern mobile development tooling; familiarity with backend services (Node/TypeScript, GraphQL, or similar) is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and grow other engineers through code reviews, design collaboration, and technical guidance
- Comfort collaborating with product, design, and data/analytics partners to define metrics, interpret results, and refine experiences
