True Anomaly builds autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors for U.S. national security and space superiority. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Digital Engineering team, you will be the senior technical architect building the in-house software behind the company's digital thread—full-stack applications that serve as systems of record for product, manufacturing, and operations data across the product lifecycle.
You will set technical direction alongside the principal engineer, architect for scale and reliability, and raise the engineering bar for a growing team while remaining deeply involved in code. The role goes beyond tool integration; you will build the software that replaces off-the-shelf systems, establishing data models, applications, and patterns that define how product data is created, changed, and used company-wide for years to come.
Key responsibilities include:
**Architecture & Design:** Design domain data models and workflows for systems of record (parts, revisions, BOMs, change orders, as-built records) with full lifecycle traceability. Architect services, APIs, integrations, and event-driven data flows connecting in-house applications with off-the-shelf tools and their eventual replacements. Own significant portions of network, infrastructure, and security design, including role-based access and audit controls for export-controlled data.
**Technical Execution:** Build and ship full-stack applications end-to-end—data model, services, APIs, workflows, and web UI—and operate them in production. Plan and execute migrations from commercial tools to in-house software, including data migration, parallel operation, and cutover without breaking traceability. Build observability, auditability, sync health, and data-quality checks as first-class features. Set and uphold engineering standards across code quality, testing, reviews, and documentation.
**Leadership & Collaboration:** Mentor senior and early-career engineers and raise the technical bar across the team. Work directly with engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing users to understand workflows and ship software that fits their needs. Partner with teams owning current systems to design integrations and plan migrations.
The work environment is fast-paced and high-stakes, supporting national security space operations. You will coordinate across distributed teams including engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and government partners. On-call and support rotation participation may be required. Occasional travel to company sites, government facilities, or partner locations is expected.
**REQUIREMENTS:**
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of designing and shipping production applications, services, and system integrations
- Experience building user-facing web applications end-to-end (data model, APIs, modern front end such as TypeScript/React)
- Deep experience with API design, event-driven architectures, and reliably moving and transforming data between disparate systems
- Strong grasp of domain data modeling for complex, versioned records and keeping data consistent and traceable across multiple systems of record
- Experience building for observability, auditability, and data quality in production
- Cloud and infrastructure fluency (e.g., AWS) plus strong fundamentals in networking, security, and CI/CD
- Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (e.g., Go, Python)
- Track record setting technical direction across multiple services or teams and mentoring other engineers, including senior engineers
- U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. Person) as required under ITAR
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance
**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:**
- Experience building, extending, or integrating PLM, ERP, manufacturing execution (MES), requirements/ALM, or MBSE systems
- Experience migrating an organization from off-the-shelf systems to in-house software, including data migration and user adoption
- Strong product sense and experience working directly with engineering, manufacturing, or operations users
- Familiarity with digital thread/digital engineering concepts and product-lifecycle data
- Experience with Go and building products from early stage
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform), GitOps, and CI/CD
- Background in aerospace, defense, or another regulated, hardware-driven domain
