Salary: USD 212,000 - 265,000 / annual

Airbnb is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of Data Catalog infrastructure products across the company's Data Ecosystem. This is a high-impact role within the Data Infrastructure organization focused on building tools, standards, and processes to ensure all data assets at Airbnb are cataloged, discoverable, and governed. In this role, you will: - Develop and implement data catalog products supporting data discovery, metadata management, data quality, and data lineage for Airbnb's data users - Build metadata infrastructure to support data governance, including ownership management, data classification, data privacy, access control, and data retention - Create industry-leading end-to-end data lineage products spanning online, offline, machine learning, metrics, visualizations, and third-party datasets - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure all datasets are cataloged, governed, and meet business and regulatory requirements - Conduct programs to define and ensure metadata quality and governance standards - Work with data infrastructure framework teams to identify, design, and build metadata integrations for each data system - Build infrastructure tooling and processes for scalable metadata onboarding and integrations - Develop and implement metadata-driven data policies and procedures supporting governance requirements This position is remote-eligible within the US, with occasional office work or offsites as agreed with your manager. You must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Requirements: - BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience - 9+ years of software engineering experience with focus on data infrastructure - Experience with data storage and distributed processing technologies (Hive, Spark, Trino, Flink, SQL databases) - Strong programming skills in Java, Python, or Scala - Experience with data catalog products, metadata infrastructure, metadata management, and metadata integration frameworks - Experience with workflow orchestration solutions (Apache Airflow, Prefect, Kubeflow, etc.) - Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, policies, and processes including data classification, lineage, quality, privacy, and retention - Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills - Ability to work outside your comfort zone - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
