The Engineering Platform group enables product teams to build and operate software at scale. The Code Authoring team owns the developer environment at Faire, including AI coding tools, remote development environments, and sandboxes for end-to-end testing. You will own the architecture of systems that run coding agents against Faire's codebase: the service that turns tickets into pull requests, the sandboxes and remote development environments it runs in, and integrations with Linear, GitHub, Claude, and Cursor. You'll own the developer workflow end-to-end, understanding where it is slow or fragile and improving tooling to fix it. Key responsibilities include: - Designing and maintaining production infrastructure for developer tooling with clear ownership, monitoring, uptime targets, and accountability - Managing the cost of running these systems: tracking what each agent run and development environment costs, keeping spend proportional to value delivered - Setting standards for how teams build: design reviews, testing, operational readiness, and code quality for both human and agent-written code - Representing the pod to the rest of engineering: partnering with other teams, participating in planning and prioritization, shaping roadmap around tooling capabilities - Mentoring engineers on the pod and across the organization The team focuses on AI code authoring harnesses, cloud environments for agents, validation of agent-written code, agent memory and context management, model selection and LLM cost tracking, remote development environments, sandboxes for testing, pre-push validation speed, tracing and cost visibility, uptime and SLAs for developer tooling, developer cloud infrastructure cost across AWS and OCI, and integrations with Linear and GitHub. Requirements: - Extensive experience designing, building, and running distributed backend systems in production, including finding and permanently fixing problems at scale - Experience owning the design of developer tools, CI/CD systems, or internal platforms that other engineering teams build on and hundreds of engineers use, with design decisions spanning several teams - Hands-on experience building on large language models and coding agents: running agents, giving them tools, checking their output, tracking what they do and what they cost; you use AI coding tools every day - Experience running services with uptime targets: defining SLAs, building monitoring and alerting, owning incidents for systems other developers depend on - Good judgment on performance and cost tradeoffs, with a record of making systems cheaper to run without degrading quality - Record of mentoring engineers and raising the level of teams you have worked on, both immediate team and across the organization - Strong communication skills; ability to bring disparate groups to shared understanding - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent industry experience Nice to have: - Advanced understanding of Kotlin; working knowledge of Python - Experience running workloads across more than one cloud provider Technologies: Kotlin, Java, JUnit, Hibernate, Guice, Jersey, MySQL, CockroachDB, AWS, React, TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, HTTP, JSON, Protocol Buffers.
