Salary: GBP 110,000 - 170,000 / annual
Ravio is a fast-growing European leader in compensation data and tools, serving over 1,200 clients. The company recently raised a Series A from Spark Capital and acquired Compete's benchmarking business. You'll join during a significant platform transformation as Ravio shifts from traditional SaaS to an agentic architecture.
In this hands-on Staff Software Engineer role, you'll own architecture and technical design across the full stack: the customer-facing React web app, the agentic platform (built on Temporal, MCP servers, and LLM gateways), and shared infrastructure. You'll drive system design decisions, raise the bar on code quality through design and code review, and tackle the hardest technical problems the company faces. This is a true individual contributor role with technical leadership scope, though management opportunities may emerge as the company scales.
You'll work on a modern tech stack: TypeScript/Node on the backend (PostgreSQL, GraphQL, GCP), React on the frontend, and a sophisticated AI/agentic layer using Temporal for durable workflows, MCP for tools, Anthropic/Vertex/Bedrock for models, and Phoenix for eval-driven development. The role involves both 0-to-1 platform building and scaling existing products—you'll help shape the foundations of how Ravio's product evolves over the next phase.
Ravio emphasizes technical leadership culture, high autonomy, and working alongside accomplished peers. The company is expanding rapidly outside Europe and building new product modules while systematizing what already works.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years commercial engineering experience with a track record of technical leadership during platform shifts (owning architecture, driving decisions, raising the bar through code review and design review, especially with LLM-assisted engineering)
- System design depth as your core strength: durability and consistency under failure, multi-service orchestration, data platforms, performance and cost at scale, observability and ops fluency
- Senior-level fluency in TypeScript and Node, comfortable across the backend (PostgreSQL, GraphQL or HTTP APIs, GCP infrastructure)
- Comfortable owning code in a distributed monorepo with multiple deployable services
- Ships fast under product pressure—the company is moving from PMF to scale and needs that pace
NICE TO HAVE:
- Production experience with agentic systems (tool calling, multi-step orchestration, LLM evals)
- Workflow engines (Temporal, Cadence, Step Functions)
- MCP, Anthropic SDK, or other LLM platform work
- Building developer platforms, internal SDKs, or framework-shaped surfaces
- Eval-driven development, prompt engineering at scale, LLM-judge harnesses
- React or another modern frontend framework
