Plasma is building a global money account platform powered by stablecoins, enabling individuals and businesses to earn, spend, save, and invest across borders. The company operates three core teams: Consumer (product experience and user growth), Payments (financial infrastructure for reliability and scalability), and Business (B2B operating account for global companies).
You will join one of these engineering teams as a Staff+ engineer to own the hardest technical problems end-to-end. The role is backend-leaning but full-stack, with the entire stack built in TypeScript (Node.js backend, React + React Native frontend).
Key responsibilities:
- Own and set technical direction for your team's most critical systems: architecture, data models, and standards that scale.
- Design for reliability first in systems that move or store real money: idempotency, consistency, graceful failure recovery, and handling edge cases like partial failures, retries, timeouts, reversals, and reconciliation gaps.
- Go deep on backend services while maintaining full-stack capability; own the TypeScript service, data model, and work through client/API layers when needed.
- Mentor other engineers and raise the technical bar: code standards, testing strategy, monitoring, incident response, and problem-solving approaches.
- Contribute to frontend systems and integrations where the problem demands it.
- Make decisions grounded in data and use observability to validate solutions.
You will have real ownership from day one, with your work shipping to hundreds of thousands of users and moving millions of dollars daily.
Requirements:
- Staff-level, hands-on engineer with a proven track record of owning production systems end-to-end, not just contributing.
- Backend-leaning but full-stack: deep expertise building backend services in TypeScript/Node.js, with sufficient range to work through the client layer.
- Strong instincts around reliability, correctness, and systems thinking: state machines, data integrity, observability, operational risk.
- Comfortable taking systems from zero to one and scaling them without losing clarity.
- Strong judgment on tradeoffs: speed vs. safety, abstraction vs. control, simplicity vs. flexibility.
- Clear communicator, clean code writer, able to lead through technical decisions without managing people.
- High agency; proactively identifies and solves problems without waiting to be directed.
- Data-driven decision maker.
Nice to have:
- Fintech, banking, or crypto-native background.
- Familiarity with stablecoins, custody, settlement, and blockchain transaction lifecycles.
- Founder or early-stage startup experience in a high-agency environment.
