Okta is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Developer Productivity Engineering team in Bengaluru. This role focuses on building infrastructure and tooling that accelerates developer velocity, system reliability, and software quality across Okta's engineering organization.
You will tackle high-impact challenges spanning development environments, AI enablement for engineering, scalability, and stability. Working under the core principle "Always Secure. Always On," you will act as a force multiplier for engineering teams by identifying workflow bottlenecks, pioneering AI integrations, establishing best practices for code organization, and maintaining performant development environments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and shipping automated solutions that enable developers to deliver features rapidly without compromising quality, stability, or security
- Analyzing local development workflows, building tools to track operational metrics, and profiling/tuning development environments
- Leveraging AI technologies across the development stack and automating environment configuration to accelerate developer velocity
- Defining guidelines for modern code organization, build systems, and maintainable software architecture
- Partnering directly with developers, architects, and Release Engineering to streamline CI/CD pipelines, optimize local builds, and resolve complex environment issues
- Staying at the forefront of industry trends in developer efficiency and integrating modern tools and processes into Okta's engineering ecosystem

REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of professional software development experience in fast-paced environments with a proven track record of engineering excellence
- 3+ years of hands-on experience developing, debugging, profiling, and performance tuning in Java, Spring, and Tomcat
- Deep expertise in configuring, profiling, and optimizing build tools such as Maven (preferred), Gradle, or Bazel for high performance
- Direct experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS) and familiarity with major public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Strong familiarity with Git, modern continuous integration/continuous delivery pipelines, and developer tooling
- Strong collaborative mindset with the ability to navigate cross-functional engineering teams, communicate clear standards, and rapidly master new technologies
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
