Salary: USD 160,000 - 183,000 / annual

Ibotta, a leading performance marketing platform (NYSE: IBTA) headquartered in Denver, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join its innovative engineering team. You will contribute to technology solutions powering products used by millions of consumers, with a focus on building large-scale, fault-tolerant applications that make every purchase rewarding. In this role, you will: - Design, develop, and deliver new products and features used by millions of users, collaborating with cross-functional teams - Build scalable, reliable, high-performing applications using AWS infrastructure and serverless architectures - Leverage AI tools and techniques to assist with software development, prototyping, testing, debugging, and code comprehension - Own technical solutions end-to-end from ideation through production operation - Demonstrate technical leadership by mentoring team members, cultivating their technical aptitude, and championing best practices - Decompose complex business problems into manageable sub-tasks and iterate rapidly in an experimental environment - Maintain high code quality through testing, code reviews, and CI/CD practices, deploying code multiple times daily - Stay current with evolving technology landscapes to identify the best tools and technologies for flexible, scalable solutions - Develop evaluators to verify quality of non-deterministic outputs and ensure production readiness The position is hybrid, requiring 3 days in office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) in Denver. You will work with a small, nimble team where every engineer has input into engineering culture, products, and development processes. Requirements: - 7+ years of software development experience - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Analytics, or related field - Mastery of relevant technologies (Typescript, Ruby on Rails, Java, Kotlin, Node.js, Vue, Swift) and data stores (MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis); knowing when to use each is more important than knowing all - Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and software architecture - Deep understanding of building highly scalable, observable, and fault-tolerant systems - Mastery of applying core computer science concepts to iterative system design - Highly skilled in using AI tools for prototyping, writing, testing, debugging, and code comprehension; ability to critically review and improve AI-generated code to production standards - Proficiency in context engineering and AI building blocks (LLM API calls, prompting techniques, agentic frameworks, RAG, vector databases, model fine-tuning) - Proven experience with debugging, testing approaches, and frameworks (unit testing, automated testing, evaluation-driven development) - Proven experience building, deploying, and operating automated workflows and agents (n8n, Databricks, or similar) - Deep understanding of development best practices (observability, alerting, SLOs, security, compliance, performance, optimization, reliability, cost efficiency) - Proven experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCloud) and DevOps best practices (Infrastructure as Code, Terraform) - Strong communication skills and commitment to testing as a core aspect of software engineering - Product-minded with capacity to understand customers and determine right requirements - Collaborative mindset, respect for diverse perspectives, and comfort with healthy conflict and debate
