Salary: USD 166,500 - 291,400 / annual
Join ServiceNow's AI Search UX team as a Staff Software Engineer, driving quality and development excellence across the entire software development lifecycle. You will own high-impact features from design through delivery, building scalable, maintainable code while ensuring reliability, performance, and comprehensive test automation.
Key responsibilities include:
**Software Development & Architecture**
- Design and implement new AI Search products and features while enhancing the existing product suite
- Build high-quality, clean, scalable code using Java and object-oriented methodologies
- Create and maintain client scripts, UI policies, business rules, and script includes using the platform's APIs
- Develop search-related UI components using JavaScript/HTML/CSS frameworks with focus on UX and accessibility
- Design and maintain analytics dashboards, including database schema design and ETL processes
- Modify GraphQL, Java, and scriptable APIs to introduce new functionality and address defects
- Build and maintain intuitive, extensible admin UIs for innovative search and ML/understanding capabilities
- Provide technical support for customer-reported search UI/UX issues
**Engineering & Test Automation**
- Own code quality from design through delivery with comprehensive test automation
- Create, execute, and maintain test scripts and tools using Java, Jenkins, JUnit, Playwright, and Selenium
- Develop and maintain manual test plans, test suites, and end-to-end test cases
- Contribute to improving QA processes and test documentation
- Set up test instances with multiple upgrade paths to support broader testing efforts
**Collaboration & Process**
- Work closely with Product Owners to understand requirements and define acceptance criteria
- Participate in Agile SCRUM ceremonies including grooming sessions
- Contribute to cross-team technical discussions and decision-making
- Collaborate across teams to manage cross-product dependencies
The AI Search team is responsible for cognitive, actionable search functionality and ML-based relevancy that powers ServiceNow's platform for Fortune 500 companies.
**Requirements:**
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of delivering high-quality products
- Proficiency in Python, Java, or similar object-oriented languages
- Experience with modern front-end frameworks (Angular, React, or Vue)
- Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, design patterns, and performance optimization
- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks (JUnit, Selenium, TestNG) and CI/CD pipeline integration
- Understanding of software quality principles including reliability, observability, and production readiness
- Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and optimize performance across the stack
- Experience with AI-powered tools or workflows, including validation of datasets, model predictions, and inference consistency
- Critical thinking about integrating AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving
- Comfort with development tools (IDEs, debuggers, profilers, source control, Unix-based systems)
