Extreme Networks, a global networking leader serving over 50,000 customers, is seeking a Staff Software Applications Engineer to own and optimize CI/CD infrastructure and build systems. This is a critical individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Manager of Applications Engineering.
You will take ownership of CI/CD infrastructure and proactively identify improvements that accelerate engineering velocity. You'll balance technical depth with practical business outcomes, stay current with DevOps best practices and emerging technologies, and partner with developers across the organization to remove build and deployment friction. You'll design and maintain CI/CD pipelines at scale, build solutions that grow with the organization, and mentor junior team members to improve overall team capabilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-scale CI/CD pipelines
- Optimizing build automation and release processes
- Managing artifact repositories and release automation strategies
- Implementing infrastructure-as-code and GitOps practices
- Collaborating with development, operations, and product teams across multiple time zones
- Creating clear, maintainable documentation for systems and processes
- Diagnosing and resolving complex build and deployment issues
- Integrating emerging AI/ML technologies into CI/CD workflows
You should be a strong communicator who can articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, work effectively in distributed team environments with async communication, and demonstrate tenacious follow-through on challenging problems. You'll need detail-oriented thinking, collaborative mindset, and a problem-solving approach to engineering challenges.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field (required)
- 8+ years total experience with 5+ years hands-on experience in build and release engineering roles
- Advanced proficiency with Jenkins (Declarative and Scripted Pipelines)
- Hands-on experience with Maven and Gradle with strong scripting knowledge
- Expert-level proficiency in Bash and Groovy scripting languages
- Strong GitHub experience including Git workflows, branching strategies, merge management, and pull request review processes
- Hands-on experience with AWS or other public cloud platforms (Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
- Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes container-based architecture and deployment
- Working knowledge of Ansible, Terraform, and Helm for deployment automation
- Experience with GitOps practices and tools (ArgoCD, Flux)
- Experience with artifact repositories such as Artifactory and Nexus
- Solid knowledge of Linux environments and command-line operations
- Experience with GitHub Copilot for code generation and automation scripting
- Familiarity with Claude.ai or similar large language models for documentation and problem-solving
- Demonstrated expertise in designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines at scale
- Release automation and deployment strategies experience
- Incident response and build failure triage capability
