Talkiatry, the largest dedicated psychiatry practice in the U.S., is seeking a Staff Product Designer to lead design across multiple strategic product areas and shape the future of mental health care experiences.
You will divide your time across several high-impact areas: designing AI-powered experiences that support patients between sessions, improving core patient portal flows (intake, appointment management, visit preparation), and evolving Talkiatry's design system to establish the next generation of visual design language and interaction patterns.
As a Staff designer, your impact extends beyond any single product area. You'll work closely with product, engineering, clinical, and AI partners across multiple teams, bringing both deep craft and strategic thinking to ambiguous problems. Key responsibilities include:
- Lead product design across Clinical AI experiences, patient portal flows, and design system evolution
- Design AI-powered conversational experiences that support patients, defining interaction patterns for emerging technologies
- Improve core patient portal experiences including intake flows, appointment management, and visit preparation
- Translate complex AI capabilities and limitations into intuitive, transparent, and trustworthy experiences
- Partner deeply with cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, AI/ML, Clinical) to shape product strategy
- Prototype and test interaction patterns—from conversational AI flows to web and mobile experiences
- Conduct user research and usability testing to validate design decisions
- Serve as a senior individual-contributor design leader, influencing product decisions across your areas of ownership
- Lead design system evolution, defining visual language and patterns that scale across web, mobile, and emerging interaction models
- Raise the craft bar across the Product Design team through critique, mentorship, and example-setting
Talkiatry is transforming mental health care by making high-quality psychiatry more accessible and sustainable. The company operates 750+ psychiatrists, 250+ therapists, and has delivered more than two million patient visits nationwide. You'll work on products that directly impact thousands of clinicians and hundreds of thousands of patients.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of product design experience, including owning complex digital products from discovery through implementation and iteration
- Portfolio demonstrating strong product thinking, interaction design, and exceptional visual/UI craft (required for consideration)
- Strong experience designing rich web and native mobile products
- Experience operating with high autonomy and leading design in ambiguous or zero-to-one product spaces
- Experience designing products where trust and transparency are critical
- Strong systems thinking and ability to design individual experiences while considering broader product ecosystem
- Deep understanding of interaction design, information architecture, visual hierarchy, typography, layout, and responsive design
- Strong user research skills with ability to independently plan and conduct research, usability testing, and synthesize insights
- Experience creating and evolving scalable design systems
- Strong prototyping skills and ability to communicate complex interactions before full build
- Experience collaborating with product managers and engineers, contributing meaningfully to product strategy
- Strong communication and storytelling skills, including ability to explain design rationale and influence senior partners
- Curiosity about emerging technologies and willingness to learn through experimentation
PLUS (not required):
- Experience designing conversational interfaces, chat-based products, voice experiences, or AI assistants
- Experience designing AI/ML or LLM-powered products
- Experience establishing interaction patterns for emerging technologies
- Healthcare or regulated industry experience
- Experience establishing or evolving visual language of a product or design system
- Experience designing patient-facing or consumer health products
Note: Healthcare experience is not required but is a plus. AI design experience is not required; genuine enthusiasm, strong foundational skills, and evidence of tackling unfamiliar interaction problems matter more.
