Gusto is hiring Staff Product Designers to own end-to-end experiences across its Money and HR product organizations. These are high-stakes, AI-native surfaces where small businesses make critical financial and people decisions. You'll work across one of five teams: Consumer Banking (building financial products like Gusto Wallet with spend accounts, savings goals, and earned-wage access), Gusto Money/MoneyOS (helping small businesses understand and manage their financial position), HR Experiences (designing AI-native self-serve and expert-assisted HR support), or Retirement (making 401(k) planning intuitive and accessible). Day-to-day, you'll own design end-to-end in your domain—framing ambiguous problems, shipping high-craft accessible experiences, and shaping goals and roadmaps in partnership with Product Managers and engineers. You'll translate 0→1 strategy into clear flows and interaction patterns, thoughtfully design AI experiences (representing uncertainty, surfacing errors, preserving customer agency), ground decisions in customer research, and raise the craft and systems bar by evolving Gusto's design system. You'll work in fast cycles, prototype and ship to real customers, and use AI tools in your own practice. Gusto serves over 500,000 small businesses and has teams in Denver, San Francisco, and New York. The company emphasizes that AI is fundamental to how work gets done, and all team members are expected to actively engage with AI tools relevant to their role. REQUIREMENTS: - 6+ years of product design experience owning and shipping end-to-end work, ideally in B2B SaaS, fintech, or another high-trust domain, with strong craft across web - Experience designing AI-enabled or conversational experiences shipped to real users, with concrete examples of how you handled uncertainty, errors, and human override - Comfort with ambiguity and 0→1 work; ability to frame problems, scope work, and move forward without perfect information - Strong systems thinking; experience using and contributing to design systems and knowing when to evolve them - Judgment to evaluate and direct AI outputs, knowing when to use them, when to override them, and how to raise the bar in high-stakes contexts - Strong collaboration and communication across design, product, engineering, and data BONUS: - Experience in high-stakes or regulated domains (fintech, financial services, HR, compliance, legal, healthcare) - Hands-on experience designing AI-driven or agentic product experiences - Service-design fluency across two-sided or multi-stakeholder products with real journey mapping and operational handoffs - Led a team's shift to AI-native workflows - Background in AI governance, evaluation practices, or AI experience design patterns
