ALSO is an electric mobility company spun out from Rivian, focused on designing and manufacturing vertically integrated, small electric vehicles for global mobility challenges. The company is building a clean-sheet platform with rapid development cycles and is seeking a Staff Product Design Engineer to own wire harness design and electrical integration across the vehicle architecture.
In this role, you will be a core early-stage team member with significant influence over technical decisions as the product scales. You'll own the development of vehicle-level interconnect diagrams and collaborate closely with electrical and mechanical engineering teams to define, route, and integrate harnesses into tightly constrained 3D environments. Your responsibilities include designing wire harnesses using 3D CAD (ideally CATIA) with attention to mechanical fit, clearances, installation paths, and serviceability; selecting appropriate conductors and connectors based on power requirements, signal integrity, and environmental specifications; building and modifying prototype harnesses using hand tools, 3D-printed parts, and bench equipment to support rapid iteration; and guiding harness designs from concept through production, including architecture definition, sourcing, testing, validation, and manufacturing support.
You will work directly with contract manufacturers to ensure build quality, define test protocols, and support root cause analysis of field and production issues. This is a hands-on role that requires both strategic thinking about vehicle architecture and practical engineering execution.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of electromechanical product development experience with focus on wire harness assemblies in automotive or robotics applications
- Strong engineering fundamentals in mechanics, materials, thermals, and connector design
- Deep expertise in 3D CAD modeling, drafting, GD&T, and PLM systems for documentation and release control
- Demonstrated success launching components and assemblies with high-volume manufacturing processes (injection molding, stamping, forging, etc.)
- Formal mechanical engineering education with focus on hardware design and development
- Experience in root cause analysis, field failure investigation, and issue diagnosis
