Mainspring Energy manufactures fuel-flexible, low-emissions local power solutions based on linear generator technology for Fortune 500 companies, data centers, and utilities. This Staff Power Systems Site Integration Engineer role is part of the Project Delivery department and serves as the technical integration authority ensuring site-level readiness after construction is complete.
You will own the transition of mechanical, electrical, control, and communication systems from installation through commissioning readiness. Key responsibilities include:
• Interpreting technical project details including scopes of work, control narratives, engineering drawings (site plans, P&IDs, single-line and three-line diagrams), and serving as controls subject matter expert in design reviews
• Verifying relay settings, meter configurations, and controller programming delivered by third-party integrators against approved settings files and design documents
• Validating installation quality and accuracy of balance-of-plant systems (fuel, electrical, metering, protection relays, communications) by developing punch lists and driving issues to closure
• Witnessing and reviewing electrical and mechanical installation checks including wiring/termination verification, grounding, insulation resistance and continuity testing, phase rotation, NETA reports, equipment setting/anchoring, gas piping pressure and leak tests, ventilation, and fuel regulator setup
• Configuring equipment and verifying functional readiness of site-level control and communication systems prior to energization, including troubleshooting industrial communication networks (Modbus TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, Profibus, OPC-UA)
• Supporting integration with customer PLC/SCADA/HMI platforms (Ignition, SEL RTAC, Siemens WinCC, AVEVA Wonderware, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Schneider EcoStruxure)
• Coordinating handoff to the generator commissioning team and keeping project stakeholders updated on readiness status
• Planning Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and system-level validation, defining acceptance criteria for customer and utility witness testing
• Supporting Permission to Operate (PTO) by compiling documentation and building submission packages for the Interconnection team
• Owning site QA/QC documentation and ensuring systems are fully validated for turnover to operations and customers
• Establishing repeatable processes including ready-for-commissioning checklists, lookahead dashboards, SAT templates, equipment configuration guides, and site procedures
• Travelling to project sites as needed to confirm readiness and perform necessary testing
This role bridges engineering design intent and real-world system operation, requiring deep technical expertise and the ability to coordinate across contractors, integrators, and customers in active construction and live-plant environments.
REQUIREMENTS:
• B.S. degree in Electrical, Controls, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline (equivalent field experience may be substituted)
• 5+ years in pre-commissioning, site commissioning, field applications, or controls engineering on power generation, battery storage, solar, microgrid, or industrial facility projects
• Experience configuring, integrating, and troubleshooting protective relays and automation controllers (SEL, GE Multilin, Beckwith, ABB)
• Experience with revenue and power quality meters (SEL-735, Schneider ION, GE kV2c, Itron)
• PLC experience (Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix, Siemens S7, Schneider Modicon)
• SCADA/HMI experience (Ignition, Siemens WinCC, AVEVA Wonderware, Rockwell FactoryTalk View)
• Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, Profibus, OPC-UA, DNP3) and OT networking
• Ability to interpret single-line and three-line diagrams, P&IDs, control narratives, and sequences of operation
• Understanding of balance-of-plant systems (fuel/gas, low- and medium-voltage electrical, metering, protection, communications) with ability to read construction plan sets and acceptance test reports; working knowledge of NEC and NFPA 37/54
• Experience planning and documenting Site Acceptance Testing and supporting utility witness testing for PTO
• Familiarity with field safety practices and energization standards (NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout, arc flash hazard awareness)
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills and ability to safely use standard electrical test equipment (multimeters, phase rotation meter, network cable/fiber tester, power quality analyzers) in active construction or live-plant environments
• Strong documentation and communication skills; comfortable coordinating contractors, integrators, and customers on site
• Self-directed with ownership mindset and enthusiasm for building repeatable processes within a growing team
