CesiumAstro is seeking a Staff Power Electronics Engineer to join the spacecraft payload development team. You will contribute across the entire development lifecycle of next-generation power electronics hardware for satellites and space power systems—from defining power system architectures and conducting trade studies to detailed circuit design, simulation, PCB layout, verification and integration testing, production transition, and manufacturing support.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define electrical power system architecture and derive power subsystem requirements
- Design DC-DC power converters, motor drives, inverters, and power management/control circuits from concept to production release
- Perform detailed design for analog and power electronics circuits ranging from single converters to multi-output power supply modules
- Conduct modeling and analysis including worst-case circuit analysis, stress analysis, small signal modeling, FMEA, reliability analysis, and power integrity analysis
- Develop design verification test plans, requirement compliance matrices, system integration and qualification test plans, and production acceptance test plans
- Lead board bring-up and design verification testing of power electronics circuits and modules
- Lead system integration, qualification campaigns, and release of designs into production
- Mentor younger engineers and foster knowledge sharing across the team
- Lead a small team of power electronics engineers to drive project execution
- Perform research and monitor power electronics industry trends to drive innovation and generate intellectual property
This is a hands-on role in a dynamic, cross-functional environment where you will work autonomously on complex spacecraft power systems. You will have the opportunity to influence architecture decisions, mentor junior engineers, and see your designs deployed in space applications.
Note: U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status is required to comply with U.S. Government Space Technology Export Regulations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering (or related field) from an accredited university
- Minimum 9 years of experience designing analog and power electronics
- Experience working with electrical power systems and subsystems, including developing power architecture, performing SWAP-C trade studies, selecting power converter topologies, and defining power management and control blocks
- Proficiency in circuit simulation tools (SPICE, LTspice, etc.) and PCB design tools (Altium, Cadence, etc.)
- Experience with analog and power electronics design, including DC-DC converters, motor drives, inverters, and power management circuits
- Knowledge of EMI/EMC design, power integrity analysis, thermal management, and fault-tolerant design of power electronics
- Programming skills to support hardware test and data processing (Python, MATLAB, etc.)
- Knowledge of MPPT for solar power applications, battery sizing and management systems, power conversion for electric propulsion systems, power conditioning, power management, and power distribution units for spacecraft
- Experience designing and testing power electronics units to meet industry standards (FCC, CISPR, UL safety, ECSS, NASA, MIL standards) in automotive, industrial, space, or military markets
