Mytra is building a new class of robotic warehouse automation product to solve material movement and storage in the $1T supply chain industry. The company applies robotics and distributed software to address e-commerce growth, rising costs, and supply chain disruptions.
As Staff Network Systems Engineer, you will be the technical owner and DRI (directly responsible individual) for the network subsystem that ships as part of Mytra's robotic warehouse automation product. The network connects robots, on-premises compute infrastructure, operator interfaces, and supporting systems, and its performance is fundamental to overall system operation.
This is a product engineering role, not traditional corporate IT. You will define what good looks like for networking at Mytra and own the subsystem from requirements and architecture through hardware selection, physical design, configuration, deployment, validation, and ongoing evolution. You will work across software, robotics, electrical, mechanical, systems, deployment, and operations teams to translate system requirements into a network architecture that performs predictably in complex industrial environments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as technical DRI for Mytra's product network, defining and evolving architecture supporting robots, on-premises compute, operator interfaces, and other components
- Own wired and wireless network design, including topology, switching, routing, addressing, segmentation, redundancy, QoS, wireless coverage, channel planning, roaming behavior, interference management, and capacity
- Translate robotics and application requirements (latency, jitter, packet loss, throughput, availability, roaming performance, fault tolerance) into concrete network requirements, architectures, and acceptance criteria
- Own selection, evaluation, qualification, and lifecycle of networking hardware (switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, antennas, cabling, optics)
- Own wireless architecture and AP placement for environments with continuously moving robots, designing for predictable connectivity as robots transition between access points
- Partner with Electrical and Mechanical Engineering on physical design of networking subsystem, including network cabinets, power, thermal management, cabling, serviceability, installation, and maintainability
- Define standard network configurations, deployment practices, and automation for reliable reproduction across customer installations
- Develop network qualification, performance, and acceptance testing covering wireless coverage, roaming, latency, packet loss, throughput, redundancy, capacity, and performance under representative robot fleet loads
- Establish network observability, telemetry, diagnostics, and troubleshooting capabilities for Engineering and Operations teams
- Lead investigation of complex system-level issues spanning robots, wireless connectivity, network infrastructure, on-premises compute, and application behavior
- Own technical roadmap for network subsystem as Mytra systems grow in physical scale, robot count, traffic volume, and deployment complexity
- Establish standards, documentation, commissioning procedures, troubleshooting tools, and engineering practices for effective deployment, operation, and support
This is a hands-on design and implementation role. You should be equally comfortable designing network topology, evaluating switches and wireless access points, determining AP placement, partnering on network cabinet design, configuring equipment, establishing performance requirements and validation methodologies, and debugging difficult problems on live robotic systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Deep professional experience designing and deploying production network systems with technical depth to independently own a networking subsystem from architecture through deployment and validation
- Strong practical knowledge of Ethernet and IP networking, including switching, routing, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, QoS, redundancy, network segmentation, and network security
- Strong practical knowledge of Wi-Fi and RF fundamentals, including 802.11 behavior, channel planning, interference, roaming, antenna characteristics, coverage, capacity, and spectrum analysis
- Experience designing wireless networks for mobile clients where reliable roaming and handoff between access points is critical to system operation
- Experience designing networks for challenging physical or RF environments. Experience with robotics, AMRs/AGVs, autonomous vehicles, industrial automation, manufacturing, logistics, ports, mining, industrial IoT, or similarly complex wireless systems is particularly relevant
- Understand network performance beyond basic connectivity; ability to reason quantitatively about latency, jitter, packet loss, throughput, availability, roaming behavior, congestion, and failure modes
- Experience selecting, configuring, evaluating, and qualifying commercial networking hardware based on system requirements rather than deploying predetermined vendor solutions
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills using packet capture, spectrum analysis, network telemetry, logging, and other diagnostic tools to investigate difficult network and wireless problems
- Comfortable working directly with physical systems, including switches, access points, antennas, cabling, network cabinets, test equipment, robots, and deployed hardware
- Strong systems thinking; ability to reason across networking, software, robotics, electrical, mechanical, and physical infrastructure boundaries
- Ability to take ambiguous system-level problems, establish requirements, make appropriate engineering tradeoffs, and independently drive solutions through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing operation
