In this Staff Machine Learning Engineer role, you will research, develop, and deploy reinforcement learning-based methods for autonomous vehicle planning. You will work alongside world-class computer vision, AI systems, and software engineers to achieve industry-leading autonomous driving performance, leveraging massive real-world data from XPeng's autonomous fleet.
Key responsibilities include:
- Research and develop reinforcement learning algorithms for planning problems
- Design efficient model architectures optimized for real-time execution on vehicle computing platforms
- Develop offline, data-driven ML infrastructure for rapid adaptation of planning models
- Deliver production-ready planning software and collaborate closely with perception teams
- Work with large-scale field-testing data to continuously improve autonomous driving capabilities
- Design, run, and analyze experiments to evaluate solution efficiency on real-world data
- Partner with systems software engineers to ship production-grade ML models
- Communicate and collaborate across multi-functional teams

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science (with focus on Reinforcement Learning or AI), or equivalent experience
- 3–5+ years of experience with machine learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
- Strong applied reinforcement learning background: model architecture design, training, data mining, and analytics
- Strong Python programming and software design skills
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, code optimization, and large-scale data processing
- Excellent problem-solving skills
Preferred qualifications:
- MS or PhD in Engineering, Robotics, or Computer Science (focus on RL/AI) or equivalent
- Production experience in autonomous driving or robotics
- Hands-on experience developing RL-based planning engines for autonomous driving or robotic systems
- Experience with model deployment and optimization tools (ONNX, TensorRT)
