Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Fullstack Engineer to join the Application Core Services (AppCore) Usage squad within the Platform/Foundations department. The Usage squad owns billing, rates, usage calculations, usage visibility, and cloud marketplace integrations—systems that help customers understand consumption and costs while enabling internal teams to operate accurate, reliable billing processes. This is a hands-on Staff engineering role with primary focus on Usage's systems and outcomes. You will lead complex technical work, contribute directly to implementation, and share ownership with the squad's other Staff and Senior engineers. Your initial work will be approximately 75% backend and 25% frontend, with this balance evolving based on squad priorities. Key responsibilities include: - Design, build, and operate backend services and APIs supporting billing, rates, usage calculations, usage visibility, and marketplace workflows - Build and maintain backend services primarily in Go, with Node.js also present; contribute to TypeScript/React applications to deliver complete features - Improve correctness and reliability of billing and usage workflows, including validation, reconciliation, error handling, and recovery - Identify recurring manual tasks and replace them with maintainable automation, clear operational workflows, and appropriate controls - Maintain and evolve infrastructure supporting services, including Kubernetes workloads, scheduled jobs, cloud resources, and deployment configuration - Use infrastructure as code and automated delivery pipelines to make changes repeatable, reviewable, and safe across environments - Investigate production issues across application code, databases, and infrastructure - Plan and execute service deployments, database changes, and infrastructure migrations with validation, monitoring, and recovery plans - Build and maintain integrations with cloud marketplaces and external business systems - Deliver projects end-to-end from requirements through implementation, testing, rollout, and production support - Make changes traceable and testable, supporting audit requirements and clear system behavior explanations - Collaborate with product management, Support, DealOps, GTM, infrastructure teams, and adjacent AppCore squads - Share technical leadership through design discussions, code reviews, mentoring, and practical improvements - Participate in on-call rotation after onboarding; improve dashboards, alert quality, runbooks, and recovery procedures You will own application code, data stores, deployment configuration, and cloud infrastructure supporting services. You should be comfortable following problems across boundaries and making improvements with appropriate platform teams. Grafana Labs is a 100% remote, globally distributed company with team members across 40+ countries. The company is backed by leading investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital, GIC, Coatue, J.P. Morgan, CapitalG, and Lead Edge Capital. Customers include Anthropic, Bloomberg, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Salesforce. REQUIREMENTS: - Substantial experience designing, delivering, and operating production backend systems, with depth and judgment to lead complex work hands-on - Strong experience building and operating production backend systems in Go (primary backend language) - Professional experience contributing to frontend applications using TypeScript and React, or comparable technologies, with willingness to work across the stack - Experience reasoning about distributed systems, including partial failures, retries, consistency, and service interactions - Experience with relational databases, including data modeling, schema migrations, query performance, and safe production changes - Practical experience deploying and troubleshooting containerized services and jobs in Kubernetes - Experience managing cloud infrastructure through code and working with CI/CD pipelines, environment configuration, and controlled rollouts - Ability to investigate production problems using logs, metrics, and traces, and turn findings into lasting improvements - Record of delivering projects end-to-end, clarifying requirements, making trade-offs, and following through after release - Experience working remotely with clear asynchronous communication and dependable collaboration across time zones - Ability to learn unfamiliar domains and technologies, adjust approach as new information emerges, and take ownership beyond main area of expertise - Experience writing readable, well-tested software that other engineers can understand, maintain, and operate - Willingness to participate in on-call and take responsibility for production behavior of systems you build - Experience supporting colleagues through code reviews, mentoring, and constructive technical discussions BONUS EXPERIENCE: - Usage metering, billing engines, pricing and rates, financial reconciliation, or customer-facing cost management applications - Reducing operational toil and automating workflows with recurring exceptions or manual interventions - Systems with auditability, traceability, or financial-control requirements - MySQL operations, replication, database upgrades, and performance tuning - Terraform, Jsonnet, and Kubernetes deployment configuration - Argo Workflows or comparable deployment and job-orchestration tooling - Cloud infrastructure involving managed databases, object storage, service accounts, and access controls, particularly on GCP - Data synchronization pipelines and BigQuery integrations - Cloud marketplace integrations across AWS, Azure, or GCP - Integrations with business platforms such as NetSuite or Salesforce - Observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, or OpenTelemetry
