Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer to join the Application Core Services (AppCore) team within the Foundations department. AppCore develops essential systems driving Grafana's business operations, including the billing engine, customer provisioning, cloud marketplace integrations, and customer account portals.
The Usage squad, within AppCore, owns systems responsible for customer usage calculations, cost management, billing applications, and customer-facing account management. This role is approximately 75% frontend and 25% backend, requiring full-stack capabilities across modern web technologies and backend services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, operate, and evolve reliable full-stack web applications and customer-facing account portals that power core usage and billing workflows
- Build and maintain backend APIs (Golang, Node.js) and intuitive user interfaces using TypeScript and React
- Design and maintain integrations between Grafana systems and external business platforms such as NetSuite, Salesforce, and cloud marketplaces (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Develop and automate business logic for customer usage metering, pricing structures, promotions, and billing reconciliation
- Collaborate across product management, DealOps, GTM, Support, and adjacent AppCore squads to deliver robust end-to-end features
- Address technical debt, optimize CI/CD pipelines, strengthen test coverage, and improve system observability and operational resilience
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers while shaping pragmatic solutions for complex systems challenges
- Contribute to roadmap planning, technical design, OnCall improvements, and long-term simplification of stack operations
- Own production behavior of systems, including improving runbooks, dashboards, alerts, reconciliation safety, rollout controls, and recovery procedures
The role sits at the intersection of product, platform, and business operations. When this domain works well, customers get clear usage visibility, reliable billing, and seamless account management workflows. Grafana is a 100% remote, globally distributed company with team members across 40+ countries. The company is backed by leading investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital, GIC, Coatue, and others. Customers include Anthropic, Bloomberg, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Salesforce.
Grafana actively embraces AI-assisted and agentic development practices, integrating these technologies into engineering workflows and the systems delivered. Engineers are encouraged to thoughtfully leverage AI tools throughout the development lifecycle.
Requirements:
- At least 1 year of fully remote work experience
- Experience working on a large SaaS platform and dealing with common distributed systems problems (scalability, multi-tenancy, data isolation, high availability)
- Strong professional experience with backend technologies (Golang, Node.js) and modern frontend web development (TypeScript, React)
- Deep care for developer and user experience and product quality
- Experience delivering projects end-to-end: gathering requirements, brainstorming, shipping to customers in a self-driven manner
- Write clean, robust, well-tested software that other engineers can understand, operate, and maintain
- Experience mentoring junior engineers in a collaborative, asynchronous environment
- Ability to take on complex challenges and break them down into modular solutions with tight learning loops
- Willingness to work across teams with transparent planning and openness to feedback
- Strong Kubernetes experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure, and familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tooling (Helm, Terraform, Jsonnet)
Bonus Experience:
- High-volume usage metering, billing engines, or customer-facing cost management applications
- Designing and maintaining integrations with third-party business systems (NetSuite, Salesforce, Cloud Marketplaces)
- Frontend component libraries, design systems, and modern CSS-in-JS tooling
- Cloud marketplace integrations and SaaS provisioning/tenancy patterns
- SaaS provisioning, tenancy, regional expansion, plugin rollout, or customer lifecycle systems
- Incident response involving configuration drift, partial failure, or cross-service state mismatch
