Salary: USD 280,000 - 320,000 / annual
Anthropic is seeking a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer to embed directly with strategic enterprise customers and lead the technical direction of their AI adoption. In this role, you will act as a senior technical leader—not just an implementer—deciding what should be built and ensuring it gets built well.
You will work across multiple concurrent workstreams, owning technical strategy for key accounts or verticals in partnership with account and product teams. Responsibilities include leading discovery and advisory engagements independently, guiding technical architecture and design decisions, leading partner-delivered engagements while setting quality standards, and representing Anthropic to senior technical and business stakeholders (VPs and C-level). You will own engagements end-to-end: scoping work, sequencing it, unblocking obstacles, anticipating security and procurement gates, and delivering production systems customers can operate.
You will build production applications and agent components with Claude, review designs and unblock other forward-deployed engineers on hard technical calls, identify and codify repeatable deployment patterns, and contribute insights back to Product and Engineering teams. You will build long-term customer relationships and proactively identify new AI deployment opportunities throughout engagement lifecycles. The role requires frequent travel (25%) to customer sites for in-person collaboration and hands-on building. You will be a champion for Anthropic's mission in the field, sitting at the frontier of enterprise AI deployments and helping shape the forward-deployed motion as it scales.
Working closely with Research, Product, and Engineering teams, you will combine engineering expertise, frontier AI application knowledge, and customer-facing skills to understand workflows and develop innovative solutions addressing complex business challenges while maintaining high standards for safety and reliability.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Deep system design and problem decomposition skills; ability to walk into discovery conversations with only a business problem and leave with a defensible technical strategy for secure, production-ready designs in complex enterprise environments with legacy systems, identity/access controls, and compliance requirements
- Experience in a senior technical, customer-facing role such as Forward Deployed Engineer, or as a Tech Lead with consulting or product experience; former technical founders encouraged to apply
- Track record as the person a team turns to on ambiguous technical calls through architecture review, pairing, or informal mentorship
- Track record of directly influencing senior technical and business stakeholders, including VP and C-level, in complex organizations
- Extensive experience building and operating production systems; hands-on experience with LLMs and agents expected (side projects and prototypes count)
- Strong programming skills with proficiency in Python and ideally one or more additional languages (TypeScript, Java, etc.); experience shipping production applications; everyday use of AI coding tools with judgment to review and steer
- Experience leading advisory and architecture-review engagements as well as hands-on builds, running them end-to-end
- High agency with ability to navigate ambiguity in complex organizations and learning velocity to pick up new domains and tools quickly
- Passion for advancing safe, beneficial AI systems through creative technical applications
- Background in financial services, healthcare/life sciences, or another enterprise vertical is a nice-to-have
- Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience in a field relevant to the role
- Years of experience will correlate with internal job level requirements for the position
