Rula is seeking a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer to embed with business and clinical teams, learning their workflows and building AI-powered tools that dramatically reduce manual work. In this role, you will observe how teams actually operate, design and ship software solutions that turn multi-hour tasks into minutes, and stay engaged until teams can run tools independently. You'll then distill learnings into reusable building blocks that accelerate the next team's productivity. Privacy and security are embedded in the design process from day one, reflecting Rula's commitment to protecting patient data in mental healthcare. You will work across Rula's business and clinical operations, identifying high-impact manual processes and deploying AI solutions that deliver measurable value. This is a hands-on role requiring deep customer empathy, rapid prototyping, and the ability to translate operational pain points into elegant technical solutions. You'll collaborate closely with non-engineering stakeholders, ensuring adoption and sustained usage of the tools you build. Rula is a remote-first, Series C-funded mental health platform dedicated to making addiction treatment and mental healthcare accessible and effective. The company operates across most U.S. states (excluding Hawaii) and emphasizes diversity, equity, and inclusion as core to its mission. REQUIREMENTS: - 8+ years shipping production-quality software systems (consumer or business) with end-to-end ownership of outcomes - Proven track record of shipping tools or products used weekly by customers or business teams, supported by usage telemetry - Deep experience learning operational workflows through observation, interviews, or data before designing software solutions - Daily use of coding agents (specifying, testing, and reviewing output diffs) with rigorous evaluation practices (test sets, evals) and privacy-by-design standards (synthetic/masked data, isolating clinical content from operational tools) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience building custom measurement frameworks for cost, usage, and impact tracking when standard vendor dashboards were unavailable - Direct prior experience being forward-deployed to non-engineering business teams or external customer organizations - Practical experience migrating systems across different LLM models to optimize costs while maintaining quality guardrails - Proven ability to integrate AI into complex business platforms with imperfect data/APIs (e.g., CRM, billing, scheduling) - Track record of coaching non-engineering team members to build or adopt software workflows independently
