Wispr AI is building the voice interface for computing. The company's first products—Flow (natural voice interaction in any application) and Notetaker (context-building across conversations)—represent a shift toward AI systems that can perceive, understand, and act with earned trust.
As Staff Engineer, Desktop (macOS), you will own the architecture of Wispr's macOS platform and build its screen-context engine—the foundation enabling every feature to understand what is happening on a user's screen. This is a high-impact, systems-level role where you'll solve the hardest desktop problems and create primitives that improve Flow across macOS.
Key responsibilities:
- Design and build a reliable screen-context engine supporting dictation, Notetaker, Instruct Mode, and future products
- Set technical direction across accessibility, native integrations, memory, state, and background behavior
- Debug and resolve difficult performance, correctness, and cross-application failures
- Expand Flow's screen understanding capabilities while protecting performance and user privacy
- Translate OS-specific knowledge into durable foundations other engineers can build on
You'll work within a talent-dense team that holds strong opinions, tests them quickly, and prioritizes both the technology and the final human experience. The role demands deep systems thinking and the ability to turn ambiguous technical problems into clear direction.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated experience designing a system or platform that other engineers have successfully built on
- Recent track record shipping meaningful production code for a desktop application
- Ability to debug unfamiliar systems from first principles
- Experience owning a quality or UX metric, not just a feature roadmap
- Skill in translating ambiguous technical problems into clear direction for a team
Prior experience with voice, ML, Electron, accessibility APIs, or macOS is not strictly required if you bring exceptional platform depth.
