Aspora is building a borderless financial operating system for globally mobile users, backed by Sequoia Capital, Greylock Partners, Y Combinator, and others. The company operates across India, UK, UAE, EU, and US with 150+ employees.
As a Staff Engineer, you will be a central technical force shaping the backend architecture powering Aspora's global banking platform. This is a deeply hands-on role where you design, build, and scale systems serving millions of users across markets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Drive system architecture and high-level design for scalable, reliable backend platforms
- Stay hands-on with coding, debugging, testing, and deployment of high-quality backend services
- Build and evolve systems end-to-end; experience creating services from scratch is a strong plus
- Make informed technical decisions by evaluating architectural trade-offs and long-term impact
- Own performance, reliability, and operational excellence across backend components
- Convert product requirements into robust technical solutions through cross-functional collaboration
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance
- Define and champion engineering standards and best practices across the backend stack
- Bring deep expertise in system design, distributed systems, databases, queues, caching, and cloud infrastructure
- Shape technical direction and drive key engineering initiatives that strengthen the overall platform
You will work on large, ambiguous problems, break them down into clear technical direction, and partner closely with product, design, and operations. As one of the senior-most individual contributors, you'll raise the technical bar and influence engineering culture across pods.
Requirements:
- 7–12 years of strong backend engineering experience
- Motivated to build products from the ground up and help define technical processes
- Understanding of startup pace and mindset; excited to contribute to growth and culture
- Deep technical expertise paired with willingness to learn and adapt to Aspora's internal systems
- Language-agnostic; strong engineering fundamentals valued over specific tech stacks
