Andercore is an AI-native supplier of industrial materials and goods for energy and infrastructure, executing trade and distribution end-to-end at the speed of compute. The company operates across seven European markets with a €900B+ addressable market, serving as the supplier of record by automating sourcing, pricing, sales, logistics, credit, and financing through AI agents. With a triple-digit-million euro turnover run rate, 80+ employees across Berlin (HQ), London, and Shanghai, and $90M in funding including a $40M Series B, Andercore is redefining global trade in industrial materials.
As a Staff Engineer, you will own the hardest technical problems and set architecture across teams, focusing on speed, reliability, security, and observability—critical for a trading business where order values are high and prices change daily. You report to the VP Engineering and work closely with Senior Product Engineers, QA, and product managers while remaining hands-on: writing code, reviewing designs, and raising the bar for everyone.
Key responsibilities include:
- Setting technical direction across teams by defining target architecture, writing RFCs for major decisions, and ensuring aligned execution
- Leading the hardest technical work yourself from design through production, not just advising
- Shaping the carve-out of the transaction core from Salesforce into a modern, modular system with a non-disruptive migration path
- Making reliability, security, and observability foundational through monitoring, alerting, incident response, and postmortems that drive real change
- Designing how AI agents safely operate on money-touching paths with evaluations, guardrails, audit trails, and human review
- Setting standards for correctness and data integrity including idempotency, validation, and testing with QA
- Mentoring engineers through design reviews, pairing, and feedback; helping define what great engineering looks like at Andercore
In your first six months, you might design the pricing engine architecture to scale with growing assortment and markets, lay out the target architecture for moving the transaction core off Salesforce, and build the observability and incident setup to catch problems before customers notice.
Tech stack: Java 21 and Spring Boot 3, Python, LangGraph and LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini), PostgreSQL, Kinesis, AWS with Terraform, GitHub Actions, TypeScript with Node.js, Next.js and React, and Salesforce.
REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 8 years of experience building and running software in production, including systems where errors cost real money
- Deep backend expertise at production scale in Java or comparable language (Kotlin, C#, Go) with willingness to work in Java and Spring Boot
- Track record of setting architecture across several teams through influence rather than management title
- Experience designing transactional, distributed, and event-driven systems with strong focus on correctness, failure modes, and performance
- Hands-on depth in reliability, security, and observability; experience leading incidents and postmortems
- Experience in a fast-growing company with track record of solving business problems, not only technical ones
- AI as part of daily work; experience building or evaluating AI agents in production is a strong plus
- Experience with re-platforming or carving out systems from Salesforce or ERP is a plus
