Alaffia Health is a venture-backed Series B healthtech startup addressing billions in annual improper payments and administrative waste within U.S. health plans. Using expert clinicians and transparent AI, the company delivers deeper insights, smarter automation, and better outcomes across the claims lifecycle for health plans, providers, and patients.
You will serve as a Staff Engineer, solving complex cross-team technical challenges, setting architectural direction, and acting as a force multiplier across the engineering organization. This is a high-impact individual contributor role focused on translating strategic goals into technical roadmaps, leading execution, and championing AI-augmented development practices.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architecting and owning delivery of complex, high-impact systems spanning multiple teams
- Setting technical direction and coding/design standards across the organization
- Driving AI coding tool adoption (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor) and establishing best practices to measure productivity gains
- Mentoring senior engineers and influencing technical decisions without formal authority
- Partnering cross-functionally with product and business leaders on technical strategy
- Owning testing strategy, system health, and build-vs-buy decisions for critical infrastructure

REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of leading complex, high-impact projects at scale
- Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript, Python, GraphQL, and PostgreSQL
- Strong system design and cloud infrastructure experience (AWS preferred), including CI/CD and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Demonstrated success adopting AI coding assistants to improve team productivity
- Excellent communication skills and experience mentoring senior engineers
- Healthcare tech/regulatory experience (HIPAA, HITRUST) is a plus
- Preferred: Healthcare SaaS experience; familiarity with medical billing, claims, or clinical workflows
- Preferred: Experience shipping user-facing AI products or AI/ML model deployment
- Preferred: Open source contributions or technical publications
- Current authorization to work in the United States required; visa sponsorship not available
